How do Hybrid Cars Actually Work and Are They Worth It?

So a new breed of hydrogen cars are now coming into the market, with fuel prices being at an all time high, could we assume that this is just a great ploy by the government on a way to introduce the new fuel efficient hybrid motors? The reason for saying this is because of the fact that the new hybrid cars are soon to be released at the same the petrol and diesel prices are hitting the roof.

So if you are wondering to yourself, what actually are hybrid cars then here is your answer. These new breed of semi hybrid vehicles do still run on fuel but they use a little extra function called an electrolyser. If the car was full hydrogen vehicle it would be running solely on the natural resource. But a semi hybrid car would still run on half of your petrol or diesel and half hydrogen. There is a huge range of benefits that can be introduced via the release of the new efficient vehicles ranging from quieter engine noise, to less fuel consumption and most importantly your emissions will become cleaner helping to gradually improve the environment and eliminate global warming. It has actually been proven that a semi hybrid vehicle can reduce your fuel costs by up to 50% which is amazing to say the least.

But keeping in mind all of the benefits mentioned, you will notice that hybrid cars are still very new and still have major floors in there build. The greatest disadvantages would probably entail a few facts such as the ability to get a nice family sized car. Because hybrid cars are so economic they are made relatively small so if you are looking for a jeep or a 7 seated vehicle, then you will have to look elsewhere as these sort of vehicles have yet to be developed. Secondly if you like fast cars, than the hybrid cars still do not have the full ability to compete with full petrol formats, another major floor would be finding a great mechanic that would be able to fully understand the technologies of a new engine, as you do not want to break down with nobody able to help. All in all if you are deciding to get a hybrid vehicle I would carefully weigh out the advantages and disadvantages as you might want to wait a little longer until people and mechanics have come to full term with this new concept.

Why can’t they invent a car that runs off water, meaning the explosive power of hydrogen and oxygen?

If you mix hydrogen gas and oxygen gas together without the heat, isn’t it explosive? So if you had a car that could convert water back into these gases and then cause an explosion and channel the explosion into energy, why couldn’t you use the energy to run the car?

Hybrid Cars Can They Really Run on Water

Auto manufacturers around the world have faced financial trauma during recent years, resulting from consumer change in regards to both politics and the environment.

With no imminent resolution to the oil crisis in the Middle East, the price of crude oil has raised well over one hundred dollars, and will only continue to rise. Gas prices are now reaching above four dollars per gallon, and consumers around the world are looking for ways to save money on gas, as well as reduce their impact on the environment around them in this era of speculation about global warming.

There are quite a few ways that drivers are able to conserve gas while driving their current vehicles. The most obvious option is to cut down on the number of hours spent driving the car. Of course, this isn’t a viable option for most people, especially in rural areas, but walking or riding a bike is a great way to save money and stay healthy.

Other conscious decisions including having your vehicle coast down hills, and avoiding stopping and starting. Driving on a busy street during rush hour is a great way to guarantee your car is burning gas.

As consumers are changing their driving habits, they have shied way from SUVs and other large gas-guzzling vehicles. With the decision to move away from trucks, vans, and SUVs, the automobile manufacturers around the world have introduced a variety of alternatives.

Hybrid cars minimize the consumption of gasoline by using an electric motor when possible. These hybrids greatly improve the efficiency of energy used by the car. Despite general belief, hybrid cars are easy to refuel and provide all of the typical function of our current gas-fueled cars, but with far less impact on the environment and driver’s wallet.

Interested in how hybrid cars make the most out of every gallon? Hybrid cars shut off the gasoline engine when possible, and recover energy when the vehicle when brake. In addition, their sleek aerodynamic design and light materials allow them to further cut down the burning up of gas.

While hybrid cars are allowing consumers to make an impact now, the future of cars is decidedly based on hydrogen cars. Hydrogen cars are the holy grail of transportation. Just like hybrid cars, hydrogen cars use minimal energy consumption and will eventually have impact on the environment.

Research for hydrogen cars has been funding both by the government and private investors. For the time being, functioning models are demonstration-only as the cars are still expensive to build and operate.

Unfortunately there are still many drawbacks with hydrogen vehicles. Only a couple hundred are currently in use in the United States, due to their high costs. Because hydrogen vehicles have yet to hit the mainstream population, mechanical assistance is inconvenient. In addition, hydrogen cars create more exhaust than gasoline-powered.

Once hydrogen cars become more prominent in the United States, there will be need for many more hydrogen stations used to fuel cars. It has been approximated that the cost will be around $500,000,000,000 (five-hundred billion dollars) to replace the nation’s current gasoline-based infrastructure. However, because of the global gas and oil crisis, the investment is still considered a necessary one.

Before consumers know it, energy-efficient cars will become the norm on the market, not the exception. Hybrid cars are no longer taboo, and we can anticipate hydrogen cars to follow sooner than we think. While the prices of oil and gasoline may improve, expect to find financial relief with these new innovations.

Why Don?t They Recycle?

July 9, 2010 by

Recently, I was invited to a party. The hosts were lovely, the home was large and beautiful in a well-to-do area. Everything about the day was fantastic, except for one thing…they didn’t recycle.

I noticed glass bottles in the trash, I thought maybe some partygoer made a mistake. Then I noticed another and another, no mistake.

Does their township not offer recycling? I can’t imagine these intelligent, well read people would have a blatant disregard for the environment. I didn’t ask. That would be poor etiquette.  I should have though, I could have at least taken those bottles with me and recycled them at my house.

It leaves me wondering, why don’t they recycle? Cans, bottles and paper are the most widely recycled products in the nation. Why not there? I am sure there are many areas of our country that are still in the dark about recycling. We are the self-proclaimed leaders of the world, yet many other countries have far surpassed us environmentally.  There are some countries, such as Sweden where composting your food scraps is mandatory.  They have been able to reduce the amount of green waste going into the landfill drastically.   Food scraps will not effectively breakdown inside a plastic bag in a landfill, in fact it contributes to the production of methane gas, one of the leading destroyers of the ozone.

It is our responsibility, to hold our government and ourselves accountable. The USA is more than capable of implementing recycling in every state, county and municipality… we should insist on it.

It is more cost effective over the long term to have these programs in place.  Recycling products, makes new products with  a smaller footprint than products using virgin materials.  Recycling saves thousands of acres of landfill space every year.  Recycling also reduces the amount of methane gas being produced in landfills and chemicals from leaching into our soils and making its way into our ground water supply.  Once the damage is done, it is difficult and costly to undo.

As my Mother always said, “Do it right the first time and you won’t have to go back and do it again.”  We only have one country, one Earth, we should honor it, revere it and take care of it.  Over the last 100 years of the world’s growth we have taken for granted that the Earth would just sustain.  It would always be here for us to manipulate it and abuse it as we chose.

What can one do if recycling is not offered in your area?  Take Action, write a letter to your local newspaper, the township officials and your county freeholders.  Make everyone aware of the damage that is being done.  You voice will be heard.  Get children involved in your quest for a better world.  Children are innovative thinkers and can make a real difference.

For example:  Recently a local Boy Scout Troup in our area provided a hard plastics pick up to their community. Hard plastics are items like: Plastic lawn furniture, kids molded plastic play sets, 5gal water bottles, etc. Any large hard plastic items. They sent out fliers, collected these items on a particular date and took them to the township Public Works Facility, where from there it was taken by the township to the County Recycling Facility. They collected over 500 pounds of hard plastic that would have ended up in the dump!

It does take some effort on our part to recycle hard plastics, however a quick trip to the Township Public Works Dept. will keep these items out of our landfills. They can then be recycled and turned into other useful products, like Polywood Furniture. By asking our local municipalities, maybe they will offer one or two pickups per year. By recycling these hard plastics we can save valuable space in our landfills.

These young boys made a difference in our community and our environment. We should all follow their example. If everyone nationwide would make this small extra effort to recycle, the effects would be staggering. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!

Hydrogen Fuel Cars – Do They Exist?

June 25, 2010 by

Did you know that hydrogen fuel cars are already on the streets of many first world countries? General Motors and Ford already launched hydrogen fuel cars and currently, BMW has created a series of the same type of vehicle. General Motors already have thirteen hydrogen fuel cars roaming the streets of Washington, including 6 minivans.

Ford is still in the process of manufacturing ‘Focus’. Other car manufacturers namely Honda, Toyota, DaimlerChrysler, and Nissan already have vehicles in the Army and even with the public.

With the launching of hydrogen fuel cars, many car owners no longer have to worry about gas mileage. If you want to save money now, yet you can’t afford the hydrogen fuel cars, have your existing car converted. Of course, it can cost a little but the benefits are priceless.

By 2010, General Motors will launch alternative hydrogen fuel cars. Although the cars use alternative hydrogen fuel, the price is just like that of internal combustion vehicles. GM and Shell are now partners; the latter has created stations for hydrogen fuel to meet the demand for the alternative fuel. The two giant companies projected that for every 200,000 hydrogen fuel cars, 300 stations are needed.

If you walk the streets of Europe, you will hardly notice that there are some hydrogen fuel buses roaming their streets. DaimlerChrysler introduced the said buses in 2004. You can find the buses in Barcelona, Amsterdam, London, Hamburg, Madrid, Luxemburg, Reykjavik, Porto, Stuttgart, and Stockholm. The buses function well regardless of the weather.

In fact, the buses provide excellent transportation during hot summers and cold winters; as well as in the hilly regions and flatlands. You can find hydrogen stations in the 7 major cities of Europe and each station is equipped with the necessary equipments like the electrolysis tools. Water is used to create the fuel for the stations.

An ethanol fuel car can also use hydrogen fuel cells. Ethanol has water and this is where the hydrogen is derived. If you use this alternative, you can improve gas mileage and at the same time supply the cells with the needed hydrogen. This type of vehicle is called water power car or hybrid car and it can run using ethanol or hydrogen.

If you want a clean and abundant energy source, choose hydrogen fuel cars. As long as you have a water source, you can use it to power your hydrogen car. At present, the fuel cells are quite large but developers are now trying to make it more efficient and more reliable. Just imagine the very first computers which were large but after several years, small versions were soon invented and launched. It will not be shocking if hydrogen fuel technology will rapidly develop.

One thing’s for sure, hydrogen fuel cars do exist. Some people are still unaware of this fact but in the coming years, these cars will dominate the streets. Here’s good news to everyone, if you want to address the global warming problem, have your cars converted if it is feasible.

Check your locality if you can find a hydrogen station. This is a very important decision that you have to make, so be sure that you will have no regrets. So far, users of hydrogen fuel cars do not have any regrets and with the advanced technology of today, improvements are on their way. So look out for the cars of the future.

Green Energy Sources: What Are They?

Green Energy Sources: What Are They?

More homeowners today are looking into integrating green energy sources for developing more energy efficient homes and businesses. Green energy power is the energy received from renewable sources like sun, wind, water, etc. The way they don’t contribute to global warming, pollute, and other ways of destroying the planet is why green energy sources are so great.

The sun provides solar power, making it the most popular source among green energy sources. Solar energy is the energy power received directly from the sun. Solar energy proves to be the most commercially accepted source of green energy due to its multitude of usage options. With solar panels made of photovoltaic cells which turn sunlight into electricity you can power your home or business. Getting a hot water supply through the use of solar hot water collectors is another way the sun can be used to harness energy. These solar green energy source4s are easily available for sale in the market and are rising in popularity because they can be installed on the roofs of most of the homes and commercial establishments and they can benefit from the reduced usage costs.

Wind is, far and away, the most efficient source of green energy. Growing in popularity as a means of supplementing home and business electricity requirements is the wind, which has been used to power water pumps for centuries. Creating zero pollutants and not contributing to global warming is wind, the safest, cleanest green energy source. By constructing a turbine that captures the breeze to create motion, wind energy can be generated. If you want to use wind as a green energy source, it is a necessity that you live somewhere that is very windy, for unlike sunlight, a sufficient supply of wind can’t be found just anywhere.

Another type of alternative energy source is water. Since not all homes are equipped with a continuous supply of water to generate the required electric power, water is less frequently used as a source of green power. The Amish still use water for generating electricity today very successfully by using conveyor belts. Energy harnessed from moving water is almost completely pollutant free and is generated from a renewable resource.

A strategy that involved investing in green energy could benefit you financially as well as ecologically. Today homeowners are looking into integrating green energy sources for developing more energy efficient homes and businesses.

I am a senior citizen (whatever that means) living in the NW corner of the beautiful state of Washington. My interests are sewing, crafting, reading and the great outdoors. My main concern though is the environment and how to make it better for those who will come after us. After all, what we do today to the environment will be here tomorrow and will affect everyone around the world. That is why I have set up my website to reflect on the way we can, in a small way, ease our burden on earth?s resources and how each of us can do just that and be proud of how we are leaving this planet for our children and grandchildren because they are the ones who will benefit from how we manage this planet we call Earth. Will hydrogen powered vehicles cause climate changes if they become widsespread?

June 4, 2010 by

It seems to me that if hydrogen powered vehicles are emitting water vapor into the atmosphere this would have some sort of effect on the climate if they ever became as widespread as gas powered vehicles are today. Increased humidity seems like the most logical result. I can see this having some environmental effects especially in places that are more arid such as the southwest desert cities. What do you think?
