GM Hydrogen Fuel Cell car comes to school

November 16, 2010 by

Children at the Elementary school had a chance to ride on a Fuel Cell car made by General Motors, a car that runs on hydrogen fuel cell. Instead of using gasoline, the Fuel Cell cars use Hydrogen for power with ZERO emissions. I am lucky to be one of the few people to test drive this Fuel Cell car, the vehicle of the future. Three hours after this video was recorded, I drove this Fuel Cell car to pick up the girls from their dance lessons. Without the normal engine noise, it was quiet and smooth. Everything else was so normal that I quickly forgot that I was driving a half million dollar Fuel Cell car! Here are a few things that I noticed and learned: 1. Only a little water comes out of the ‘muffler’. Vivian used her hands to catch a few drops of water from that pipe at the rear end of the car and asked, ‘Can I drink it’? Maybe she can! 2. The efficiency of the Hydrogen for power is much better than regular gas! Which means, it actually costs less to drive this car than to use gas to drive a similar car for the same distance! 3. Yes, the cost of this car is still very high because the Fuel Cell technology is still in the research and development stage. Fuel Cell cars are not for sale yet. 4. Just think about the source of this energy– Hydrogen–out of water! The reusable and unlimited resources on the earth! And no air pollution! If you would like to learn how Fuel Cell works, check out the website: www.gm.com www.gm.com Hope GM will still be there 10 years from now to

Reed Elementary Receives First Ever Green School of the Month Award from EcoLifeSTL.com

Cyndee Blank, of EcoLifeSTL.com, presents the first ever Green School of the Month award to Dr. Chris Schreiner, Principal of Reed Elementary in Ladue. Reed School received the award because of their ongoing efforts to promote green living in St. Louis. The Waste Free Wednesdays where students and staff bringing lunch and snack from home are encouraged to pack waste-free every Wednesday, the Walking School Bus Program, which encourages more children and parents to walk to and from school, and their Bike Rodeo are excellent examples of what meaningful steps schools can take to becoming greener. Schools are encouraged to go to EcoLifeSTL.com to get ideas on how go green.
