Naval Academy taking production to Smithsonian

Setting ambitious carbon reduction targets, but not following up with equally ambitious policies, has made for good politics, SFU energy economist and Nobel laureate Dr. Mark Jaccard tells a Vancouver conference on “Building a Green Economy.” But if ecological and economic catastrophe from climate change is to be avoided, politicians must walk their talk. One reality is now unavoidable, Dr. Jaccard says: the only way to effectively reduce greenhouse gas emissions that cause global warming is to put a price on carbon. That can be achieved through a carbon tax, cap-and-trade system, government regulations or a combination of the three policy options.
