The Benefits Of Owning And Driving A Truck Or SUV And Get Good Fuel Efficiency With The New Hybrids

Depending on how old you are, you may remember the good old days, when you pulled into a gas station and someone came outside to help you. There you sat, comfortably behind the wheel, while the gas attendant filled your car with gas, (requested by gallons and not dollars), checked your oil, cleaned your windshield and thanked you for your patronage. You never worried about what type of weather it was, because you didn’t have to get out of the car to pump your gas. The attendant did it for you, so your clothes would stay as fresh as they were when you left the house. You could fill up your tank, hand over a ten dollar bill and actually get change back.
Unfortunately for everyone, those days are over. Now you sit in line behind other harried customers at the gas station and have to get out of the car, go inside to pay for the gas if you don’t want to use your credit card, then come back out and pump the gas yourself. Now people no longer say they want ten gallons of gas. That’s been changed to ten dollars worth of gas, if you please, and you clean your own windshields and check your own oil. Hopefully you won’t drip gas on your clothes or stain your hands when checking the oil level in your car.
When SUVs came on the market, it seemed like everyone just had to have one. Thanks to the cool commercials showing drivers zipping through Arctic weather or driving over treacherous terrain, they seemed just too cool to pass up. It became a status symbol to drive one, even though many of those who bought them lived in the suburbs where there was no danger of rough terrains and unpaved roads.
Now that the cost of gas has skyrocketed, many of those same people that drove their SUVs home from the dealership with a huge grin on their face, are now sobbing when its time to go to the gas station. These gas guzzlers now put a huge dent in their paychecks and no longer seem as attractive as they once did.
SUV and truck manufacturers recognized the need to produce vehicles that did not consume so much of the owner’s salary just to fuel it. They have come out with a line of Hybrid SUVs and trucks that are just as attractive as the other models but much more fuel efficient. Ford has presented the Escape Hybrid, Lexus is competing with its RX400 and Toyota has come out with its Highlander Models.
If you still want to drive an SUV, but not worry about the potential of filing for bankruptcy due to expensive fueling, then consider one of the Hybrid SUVs and trucks on the market. Your wallet will thank you.

Going Green, Good or Bad?

Going green can have a large effect on not only our environment, but our economy as well.
Global warming has been an increasingly important issue over the last decade. Emissions of greenhouse gasses such as carbon dioxide have created a lasting effect on our environment. Solutions to these problems include hybrid cars, wind and tide turbines, and ethanol-based fuel. In a struggling economy, it is hard to think about the future. Hybrid cars cost more than conventional vehicles, which only means that the financial payback doesn’t catch up until a few years “down the road.” Not a very enticing figure these days. Ethanol-based fuel is also an alternative, made from crops such as corn, it is widely used throughout the world. The problem lies with the fact that it costs more to produce and still releases emissions into the air. A whole month’s supply of corn for a family is equal to the amount used to fill one tank of gas. I believe the most efficient and cost-effective way we can produce energy is through wind and tide turbines. These effectively use the power generated from tides in a river or wind currents high in the hills to produce clean, reliant energy. Thousands of new turbines are expected to be built and maintained throughout the next decade, creating thousands of jobs.
Going green is believed to be another word for cutting back and becoming less “energy reliant.” Cutting back can lead to job loss and inappropriate use of scarce resources around the globe. When revenues thrive and businesses stay healthy, stocks rise and people begin to become more confident, which fuels consumer spending. But when jobs are lost, consumers lose that confidence and don’t have the spending power they once had, creating a negative effect on the economy. I believe that we need to become more energy reliant, doing it a cleaner way. Cleaner energy use can not only help us live better as individuals but can aid businesses in saving money and increasing revenues. Businesses have the option of creating teams within their structure that specialize in utilizing this opportunity. This will create jobs and cut down on energy use at the same time.
The right or wrong decision we all make can have its effect on certain companies and the economy as well. Either way, the impact can turn out to be good or bad, and the way things are looking now, we can’t afford to slide any further.

Earth Day is a good time to “go green” by recycling an old car

Recycling an old car by donating it to charity has many advantages to the community. The taxpayer gets a valuable tax deduction on their itemized federal return. The scrap value of the car provides the charity with some much needed money to help fund their programs. The community gets a gas guzzling, polluting car off the road.
Here’s some advice to consider before just blindly handing over the title to your car. If you are dealing with a car donation center, ask them how much of the actual sale price the charity will receive. The term “net sale price” or “net proceeds” means the actual sale price minus auction fees, selling fees, or other fees charged by the center. Always make a copy of your title. Know who you are giving your car to. You should either mail your title to the charity or hand it directly to the person towing your car after they give you a receipt. Never, just leave the title in the car! If you do, you may not get a receipt and therefore, will have no proof of your donation. If you live in a state where you are required to remove the license plates, make sure you do! You won’t be able to cancel your car insurance until you have either transferred the plates to another car or returned them to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Make sure you keep all the correspondence between you and the charity. If you don’t, when you go to do your taxes, you’ll find yourself calling around to the various charities to find out which one you donated your car to.

The New Toyota Prius is Very Good Hybrid Car

The best selling and most popular hybrid car in the world right now is once again the Toyota Prius. When the Prius was released back in 1997 it pioneered the trend towards hybrid vehicles. Initially, the Prius didn’t sell very well at all, however, sales start to increase as more models were introduced. In 2003 Toyota came out with their second generation hybrid vehicle making it car of the year according to Motor Trend.
Rapidly soaring gas prices are another reason why people are looking for alternatives, therefore environmental and health concerns are not the sole reasons hybrids are purchased. Although there are many hybrid cars an individual can choose from, the Prius is the number one choice due to its simplicity and price.
The Toyota Prius’ second generation has improved upon the first one in many important ways. The first generation Toyota Prius was fuel efficient but it only had the additional option of air-conditioning. Compared to the original, the enhanced version was roomier, faster and flashier. It’s the first midsize hatchback sedan on the market which has won many awards.
The Synergy hybrid system is used in all Toyota hybrid models. It possesses a 1.5 liter 4 cylinder engine with intelligent valve timing and permanent magnet Ac synchronous motor. It has 110 horsepower (gas and electric power combined) and it gets 46 miles for each gallon of gas. (city and highway mileage combined, as rated by EPA).
Some features are an electronically controlled continuous variable transmission, as well as an anti-lock system and regenerative breaking. It has 89 % fewer emissions and grants the owner a tax credit upon purchase.
Power windows, cloth seats, micron filter air-conditioners, cruise control, door locks, and keyless remote entry are included as standard features in the secoind generation Toyota Prius. Switches can be found on the steering wheel that controls the climate, audio and cruise control.
Navigational systems with Bluetooth is one of the options customers have when buying the vehicle. The ignition is tuned on by a power button instead of suing the key which make it different than any other hybrid on the market. On the dashboard is an energy motor that monitors the power that flows through the battery pack, engine and electric motor.
The second generation Toyota Prius may not look as stylish as other hybrid cars on the market but its fuel efficiency, eco friendly features and an affordable price make it stand out from the rest. The practical alternative choice is the pioneer.
