Who says you need eight cylinders to have good times? Certainly not the boys and girls at the Blue Oval. Specs released Monday promise a full-fun package in the 2011 V-6 FordMustang. The all-aluminum, four-cam heart has 305 horsepower on tap, pouring out at a road-trip-friendly 30 miles per gallon on the highway. Transmitting those sipping ponies to the street are two six-speed options – manual and auto – that couple with a newly standard limited-slip differential. Suspension has also been upgraded, and Ford has thrown in some high-tech goodies to keep this middle-aged classic firmly in the 21st century. According to a company release, Mustangs new 3.7-liter Duratec 24-valve V-6 uses advanced engineering to deliver its power and economy, starting with the Twin Independent Variable Camshaft Timing (Ti-VCT) which adjusts the valvetrain almost instantly, sensing driving conditions – and driver intent – to optimize performance. The engines aluminum construction means light weight, but this lump is designed to crank out torque down low, rev to 7000 rpm and deliver the mechanical music sports coupe lovers crave everywhere in between. Mustang is completely transformed with this new engine, said Derrick Kuzak, group vice-president of Global Product Development. Everything people love about the car is still there and now under the hood is a V-6 engine that uses premium technology to deliver the power, the feel, the fuel efficiency, even the sound of the best sports coupes in the …

The Ford Escape Hybrid is still the cleanest and most fuel-efficient SUV in the world, combining the fuel economy and emissions benefits of a full hybrid with the go-anywhere capability, toughness and spaciousness of the Ford Escape — America’s favorite small SUV. For 2008, The Escape Hybrid combines a fresh new look, inside and out, with infotainment and safety features, a choice of two hybrid-specific upgrade packages and four new exterior colors. The Escape Hybrid is a “full” hybrid, meaning it automatically switches between pure electric power, pure gasoline engine power or combined operation to maximize efficiency and performance. Its gasoline engine and electric motor work in concert, providing performance similar to that of a V-6 engine. In less demanding situations, the Escape Hybrid can run on its electric motor alone (at speeds up to 25 mph), its gasoline engine alone or the most efficient combination of the two. Full hybrids achieve their greatest improvement in fuel economy during stop-and-go driving, when the electric motor is most efficient. In fact, the Escape Hybrid provides approximately 80 percent better fuel economy in city driving than the conventional V-6 Escape and can travel more than 500 miles in city driving on a single tank of gasoline. It is an extremely clean vehicle to operate — an amazing 99.4 percent cleaner, on average than an unregulated vehicle. Escape Hybrid meets strict Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (SULEV II) and Advanced …

The new 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 delivers the most power and refinement ever for a Ford SVT-tuned performance Mustang – and a few surprises, too. “The 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 demonstrates Ford’s continuing commitment to high-performance vehicles,” said Derrick Kuzak, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development. “In addition to the numerous performance and refinement improvements inside and out, the 2010 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is an estimated 2 miles per gallon more fuel efficient on the highway.” “We’re proud of the many enhancements that were developed jointly by the Ford and Shelby Automobiles team last year that we’ve now incorporated into the new 2010 Shelby GT500,” said Carroll Shelby, founder of Shelby Automobiles. “Building on what we learned to create the Shelby GT500KR, this new car offers a great combination of power, handling and braking. It is truly a special car that is a great deal of fun to drive.” Ford’s Special Vehicle Team used the gains made on the 40th anniversary edition Shelby GT500KR “King of the Road” Mustangs as the performance starting point and built from there. The design team, with a nod to the original Shelby Cobras from the 1960s, takes those design cues even further with nuanced improvements in both the coupe and convertible, each of which boasts a more-refined interior. “Working together on the KR, the Ford and Shelby teams developed new systems to continually improve the iconic Mustang,” stated Amy Boylan …
