New year, new trends
2011 will marry technology with tradition. Janus, the Roman god for whom the first month of the Gregorian calendar is named, has two heads — one looking forward to the future and another looking back to the past. That might make just him the most appropriate mascot for 2011′s emerging trends — a simultaneous embrace of technology, such as 4-D and social networks, and a fascination with quainter …

Hyundai Dealers In Indianapolis Will Feature More Fuel-Efficient Santa Fe

By now, you might be tired of hearing about it, but I’ll tell you for a fact, you have to be glad it is happening. Of course, I’m talking about the automotive industry’s push towards better fuel economy to reduce its environmental footprint, help destroy America’s dependency on oil from foreign countries and lower the total cost of ownership as it depends on gas. These are all huge benefits, so it’s nearly impossible to say you don’t care. By now, you’ve probably also heard about Toyota’s role as a leader in cutting-edge technology. But it’s a New Year and time for new manufacturers to make a play in the fuel efficiency space.

The reform movement in engine technology is a long time in coming. I’ve been keeping abreast of the latest developments because I’m a pretty big advocate for green living. Businesses and individuals have a responsibility to our environment, and through that social responsibility comes a lot of added perks associated with efficiency. Prior to really dedicating myself to the eco-movement, I was a huge fan of large vehicles. That’s why the dawn of the crossover was such a great compromise for me; I could leverage the power, strength and style of SUVs everywhere and still end up with a car that doesn’t hog the road and plays to a lot more strengths in efficiency.

Hyundai dealers in Indianapolis are about to get a huge push in the form of the upgraded 2010 Hyundai Santa Fe, a vehicle that has been available at Indianapolis Hyundai cars dealers for awhile now but was “officially” unveiled at the 2010 North American International Auto Show in Detroit this month. While the new model features a mildly updated platform in comparison to last year’s, some of the upgrades are pretty fun, while other serve a heavy purpose. New features include XM NavTraffic for real time traffic updates, standard touch-screen navigation on all models, optional rear view cameras and an “Eco-Indicator” light to make sure you’re driving as efficiently as possible.

But that’s not all of the great benefits and upgrades your Hyundai dealers in Indianapolis are featuring as part of the 2010 Santa Fe. New powertrains offer big improvements in fuel efficiency. The base model comes standard with a 2.4-liter DOHC Theta II inline four cylinder engine that puts out 175 horsepower, while an optional 3.5-liter Lambda II engine pumps 276 horsepower. The mileage figures have been upped 20 miles per gallon in city driving and between 26 and 28 miles per gallon on the highway. You’ll find great crossover efficiency when you visit your Indianapolis Hyundai cars dealership this year.

Your Indianapolis used car dealer has a lot going for it, but if you’re looking for true fuel efficiency you’ll want to buy new. Mild exterior design changes help make the new Santa Fe much more aesthetically pleasing in addition to its technology changes. In a couple of years, the 2010 Santa Fe should be a hot item at your Indianapolis used car dealer.

Chicago VW dealers could feature electric car in near future

Around the time of the Frankfurt Auto Show, manufacturers are unveiling a wide variety of new and innovative concept and go-to-market vehicles. This year’s auto show was not a disappointment, showcasing tons of new vehicles by the world’s greatest manufacturers. Parallel to the auto industry, part of the theme of this year’s show was electric cars and other fuel efficiency developments. Among the frontrunners for “most exciting announcement was Volkswagen, who announced the development and future of release of the E-Up, the manufacturer’s first stab at a fully electric car.

Chicago VW dealers are already seeing interest in this new vehicle ramping up in a big way; while some manufacturers are continuing to focus on traditional selling points, the new E-Up represents a portrait of progression—and a bright look at the future of the automotive industry. Powered by a lithium ion battery, the front wheel drive vehicle will feature 18 kilowatt hours of energy capacity—enough to power the vehicle for close to 80 miles. Volkswagen will work over the coming years to perfect the car, and your Chicago Volkswagen dealer probably won’t see the vehicle hit shelves until 2013. But when it does, it’s sure to cause a frenzy among eco-friendly and progressive drivers.

According to VW Chief Executive Martin Winterkorn, “The concept car now being presented in Frankfurt very realistically shows how we envision such a Volkswagen with pure electric drive – technically, visually and with regard to a practical size. The future will belong to lower emissions and more efficient transportation. We’re releasing one environmentally friendly car after another.

“The VW group is in top form,” he went on to add. “Today, VW is the most successful multi-brand car group in the world; we have convincing solutions for the entire market.”

Truly, Volkswagen is continuing to supplement its role as one of the world’s most progressive of automotive dealers. Top efficiency has become a major focus of the automotive industry as of late, and one of the areas with the biggest room for improvement is fuel economy. Vehicles like the E-Up are leading the way in an industry that has become a rat-race when it comes to staying ahead of the technological curve. When you walk into your Chicago Volkswagen dealer, you want to see vehicles that are competitive and top of the line; VW is doing a great job of turning that dream into a reality. Chicago VW drivers will be able to enjoy the benefits of a quality vehicles coupled with the unmatched efficiency of an electric car.

Why does Yahoo!’s new eco-friendly campaign feature an SUV as their official car?

June 4, 2010 by

It seems that’s a bit of a mixed message, at best. Even if it’s a hybrid, it’s consuming far more fuel than a smaller car would.

To see what I’m talking about, check out this link:

http://better.yahoo.com/planet/

Yes, the car they show is either a hybrid or an alternate fuel vehicle. My point is, since it’s an SUV, they’re getting about 1/3 less miles per gallon than if it was a passenger car.

So, yes hybrid SUV’s get 36mpg, but hybrid cars get about 50mpg. And therein lies the problem. Yes, a hybrid SUV is better than a non-hybrid, but it’s still a huge car which takes up too much space (worsening traffic congestion) and wastes gas (to the tune of 14 mpg for a smaller car of the same technology)
As has been pointed out, there are cases where a larger car can come in handy (such as when you are moving or hauling something). However, that doesn’t mean it’s necessary to purchase such a car for every day use! It would be cheaper to buy a hybrid Honda Civic and rent a truck whenever you needed one than it would be to own a Ford Escape, or whatever that monstrosity is.

The Escape is more expensive to begin with, and then you throw away 14mpg every time you drive it. That’s $3.50 every 14 miles, or $125 every 500 miles, which would rent you pretty much any truck for two days!
