Recycling Facts – A Brief Explanation

In some websites, recycling is belittled as a lost cause and an insignificant factor to the environment. Of course, the circles who impugn the usefulness of recycling are also the same people, in general, who became fat from doing business with blatant contempt for the environment. Just what is recycling and how important is it to the planet and to all of us? Let’s take a look at some important recycling facts, after we define recycling.
“Recycling involves processing used materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials.”
Recycling saves energy and resources by trimming down the need for raw material for the factories. It also serves to preserve the environment by cutting back on solid waste and pollution. It limits the emission of noxious fumes to the atmosphere by decreasing the burning of waste and the burning of oil for production.
Recycling facts about plastic
In 1862, plastic was toasted as a practical and revolutionary invention at the London World’s Fair. Over the years, however, our view regarding plastic has undergone a acute change. It is now thought of to be a major pollutant thanks to its sturdiness, it requires hundreds of years to effectively decompose plastic. The plastic garbage deposited in our landfills or floating in the planet’s oceans, will be there long after our time is gone.
Envion, a company from Washington D.C., in the United States, recently unveiled a new installation that’s supposed to transform plastic trash into some kind of a fuel base. If this is successful, it could emerge to be the key to solve to the world’s plastic pollution debacle. With this application, it will become advantageous for recyclers to quarry dump sites and the oceans for plastic to meet the factories’ constant requirement for more fuel and energy.
Recycling plastics save double energy compared to burning these in an incinerator.
Are you familiar with the Great Pacific Garbage Patch? It’s reported to be twice the size of the state of Texas and holds as much as 100 million tons of plastic waste. Due to the action of the sun and sea water, the plastic in this area is breaking down into minute pieces and are eaten by fish and other marine organisms, which we serve in our dinner tables – the plastic we nonchalantly scrapped has come back through the food chain to bedevil us all.
Recycling facts about paper
Dailies like The Chicago Tribune or The Washington Post, or your very own Main Street Gazette are worrying that sales have been progressively going down in the past few years as readers are now obtaining their news online. The paperless Information Age may herald the extinction of our old-style news dailies, but it’s certainly a blessing to the planet.
To come up with a single weekend version of every news journal in the country, 500 thousand trees were chopped down for their pulp to manufacture all that paper. In America, 85,000,000 tons of paper are used every year – that’s equal to 680 lbs. for every person in this country.
If we recycle just one out of ten of the newspapers we buy and discard afterward, we’d spare 25 million trees annually. The optimum solution, stop all subscriptions NOW or subscribe only to the online edition of your top daily.
Recycling facts about metal
Are you aware of the viral film showing aluminum cans? It’s astounding how we squander this useful metal by forgetting to recycle it. The mountain of aluminum containers we landfill yearly is said to be enough to re-manufacture all the passenger and frieght aircraft in this country three times a year!
Reusing 1 ton of aluminum is equal to conserving electricity to power an ordinary US house for 10 years! Aluminum containers are the ideal model for what is labeled as closed-loop recycling system. This means that all used aluminum can may be recycled to make a fresh new can, which you can find in your local supermarket in as short as 4-6 weeks – closed-loop, nothing wasted.
Some people believe that recycling today is both uneconomical and useless. These people propose that we dump all waste material in landfills now and save this for an innovation to be figured out that would make it more efficient and cheaper to mine landfills and trawl the oceans for all the piled up garbage, and remake these into fresh materials for us. I certainly look forward to that day, but in the meantime, we have to tackle waste, lack of materials, greenhouse emissions, and overflowing landfills. It’s our world – no one else will take care of it, there’s just us. Let’s recycle today, and educate ourselves about recycling facts in our libraries and on the internet.

Eco Friendly Promotional Gifts – Know the Facts

So you have decided to go the eco friendly route with your next promotion. Great! But there are a few things you may want to know before you do so. If your intention is to draw attention to ecological issues as well as promote your company, there are many eco products to choose from. If on the other hand, you are hoping to really make a difference with your purchase, you will need to ask your suppliers these three questions.
Where were the eco friendly gifts manufactured? When people think about recycling old plastic products and making new things out of them, they generally think they are doing something good for the environment. However, most ‘eco friendly’ products are currently manufactured in large factories in the Far East. This means that your recycled drinks bottle promotional pen could have been manufactured in Beijing and then transported by sea or air thousands of miles to get to you. If you are hoping to reduce our carbon footprint, there a much better ways of doing so. I am not saying that there are not some very nice and popular eco products manufactured in China but if you really want to make a difference, pay a little more and get something manufactured closer to home.
What certification is there that the product is eco friendly? More often than not, the answer will be none. This is a new area for most business gift suppliers. Often, products that are called ‘recycled’ only have about 10% recycled product in them. A few name brand pen manufacturers are guilty of this practice so be sure to get the facts. If you really want an eco friendly product, look for products made out of wood that was manufactured from wood in FSC certified forests.
Are you sure the employees that manufactured these products are treated well? There is no point purchasing a recycled tire mouse mat if the people that produced it were six years old working fifteen hour days and paid peanuts. Conditions in Far Eastern factories are improving but unfortunately this is not always the case. It is therefore a good idea to deal only with suppliers who know their Far Eastern suppliers and feel comfortable that their staff are treated ethically. It is of course difficult to ensure that everything remains the same after their visit but I can assure you I have spoken with companies I would never even consider using because of their poor working conditions.
Now I would like to invite you to visit my promotional gifts website. The site is packed with a large range of eco friendly gifts. You may also be interested in visiting my promotional pens website which features hundreds of discounted and popular pens.
Recycled Paper Products ? Facts About Recycling in the US

Millions of Americans recycle paper at home, work and school. This number keeps increasing as people become more aware of the importance of recycling and conservation. Recycling paper products conserves natural resources, reduces the need for land filling or incineration, saves energy and prevents pollution. According to the Paper Industry Association Council, 56% of the paper consumed is recovered for recycling. Included in this number, 48% of office paper is recovered for recycling, and 73% of newspaper is recovered. This translates to almost 360 pounds for every person in the country.
Recycled paper products include paperboard, tissue and paper towels, printing and writing paper, boxes, hydro-mulch, molded packaging, compost, kitty litter, and 1.5 million tons of construction products.
It is not just trees being saved by not using virgin wood pulp for products. The EPA states that recycling 1 ton of paper saves 1,000 gallons of water, 3 cubic yards of landfill space, 2 barrels of oil, and 4,100 kilowatt hours of electricity in addition to 17 mature trees. Recycled paper generates 74% less air pollution and uses 54% less water vs. making new paper. Overall, it uses only 60% of the energy it would take to make paper from virgin wood pulp.
Recycling numbers can increase by encouraging away from home collection. The EPA has set up an initiative called Recycle on the Go as part of its Resource Conservation Challenge. Its goal is to encourage recycling in public places. Their objective is to increase the amount of paper waste collected for recycling, and promote a culture of recycling by making it convenient, available and cost effective.
You should choose a company which is socially responsible company dedicated to a greener future. In addition to an extensive list of environmentally sound office products, the company should be dedicated to selling only recycled and tree-free papers. To further conserve, they reuse shipping cartons and pad them with recyclable paper, never polystyrene foam.

With the current condition of the economy and gas prices at an all-time high, many folks are looking for different ways to save some money. Some are dropping cable TV, while others may be cutting back on dining out at restaurants. Many people, though, are researching the benefits of driving a hydrogen fueled car to free themselves from the dependency of fossil fuels like petroleum (where gas comes from). The hydrogen fueled car is supposed to be the greatest conception of the 21st century for the automobile industry. Before deciding to drive a hydrogen fueled car, it is important that you understand how a hydrogen-powered car works.
A hydrogen fueled car is powered by a special engine that is powered by water as a fuel (rather than gasoline). Yes, you’ve read that correctly – W-A-T-E-R. Through an electrical reaction called electrolysis, the “fuel cell” of a hydrogen fueled car is able to extract the hydrogen and oxygen atoms from the H20 (the water), and uses the hydrogen to power the engine. Pretty cool, huh?!
There are many benefits to driving a hydrogen fueled car. By using a car that runs on water, you not only save money from using less gasoline, you also reduce air pollution of harmful carbon dioxide emissions put into the air by dirty gasoline exhaust. With everybody trying to go green these days, a hydrogen fueled car is a great way to help save the environment.
A hydrogen fueled car also has a much high fuel efficiency at well above 50 miles per gallon. However, this does not really matter, as these cars are powered by water! Now, there are plans on the internet that will tell you how to build a hydrogen fuel cell for your car, but these plans are just theoretical. If making a hydrogen fueled car was so easy, everybody would be driving one!
What many people don?t know is that by checking out the Hydrogen Fuel Cars blog, you can actually learn to EASILY convert your car or truck to run off of water AND gasoline and save hundreds of dollars per year on gas while doubling or tripling your gas mileage.
