Environmentally Friendly & Green Driving ? 4 Key Considerations to Own Hybrid Cars

August 6, 2011 by

More and more people are turning to hybrid cars these days because of their promise of lesser fuel consumption and environmental friendliness. Hybrid cars, because they run on both fuel and battery-powered engines, consume less fuel, thereby reducing the price pressures on consumers in the midst of an global oil crisis. In addition, it also emits significantly less smog pollutants in the air, compared to traditional fuel-operated cars.

Indeed, there are a lot of advantages to owning hybrid cars. This is why even the US government is starting to show support by welcoming more models into the country and by encouraging American auto makers to make more units.

The Key Advantages of Hybrid Cars are as follows:

Efficiency – Hybrid cars are electrically operated and are thus able to function well and consistently at any motor speed. This is in contrast to conventional gas-powered engines, which tend to produce less power in low revolutions per minute episodes. Hybrid cars do not need to use transmissions to make their engines run at full capacity even at reduced speeds.

Economy – One of the advantages of hybrid cars is that the feature called “regenerative braking”. Since a hybrid car works using both electric power and fuel power, each can function by itself or conjunction, depending on which is stronger at the time of use. This means that both engines complement each other and do not simply bog one when one of them becomes weaker.

Convenience – Because hybrid cars are part battery powered, they do not create huge holes on the pocket, compares to users of traditional cars who feel the pain of the continuing oil price increases. Most hybrid cars, particularly the ones that are made in Japan, are also more compact and lightweight, making them easier to maneuver on the road. Other models, particularly those by American and European car makers also do not deviate from the stylish designs their regular counterparts adopt, so users don’t have to feel they are being left out in the style department.

Sustainability – Sure, hybrid cars are fairly new, so their immediate impact on the environment cannot be foreseen in the short term. However, over the course of time, the next generations will definitely be thankful for having a clean, pollution free world, thanks to hybrid vehicles. Most critics say that it is not the time to buy hybrid vehicles because they are expensive. However, when you consider the advantages, you really shouldn’t think twice. While you must be discerning in choosing the right model for your needs, this doesn’t mean you start hesitating. After all, when more people patronize hybrid cars, manufacturers will see the need to produce more and eventually bring its price at very affordable levels.

In time to come, environmentally friendly hybrid cars will be the order of the day.

You are an environmentally friendly person and have all the correct reasons to want to buy a Hybrid car. But buying hybrid cars can be a little more complicated than that. The complication is not whether to buy Hybrid cars but more on which to choose from, given the maze of hybrid cars currently in the market.

And just like in any purchasing process, there are certain considerations to be made before you could narrow down with your choices.

The Hybrid Car – A More Intelligent Vehicle. The nature of hybrid cars, or hybrid electric vehicle, HEV has two energy sources for its engines, namely electric and combustion. In an ordinary scenario, like cruising along the highway, the Hybrid car generally runs on one or the other of the sources, until the driver needs more power such as greater acceleration. When this happened, the two engines will operate in unison. Hybrid HEV cars are low emission, fuel efficient, and this is one of the key considerations when buying hybrid cars.

Another beauty of hybrid cars are is that they recharge their batteries while being driven. This literally removes the necessity of plugging the car for electricity. Unlike pure electric cars, which need to be plugged into wall sockets to be recharged.

Speak The Lingo. Prospective buyers should attempt to achieve some level of understanding with terms related in buying hybrid cars. For instance, according to the California Air Resources Board, Ultra Low-Emission Vehicle is a car with 50 percent cleaner emission and a Super Ultra Low-Emission Vehicle emits 90 % cleaner. There are zero-emission cars however, are purely electric vehicles, not hybrid cars. But pure electric cars are currently still rather cost ineffective and impractical for full scale production.

Your Lifestyle and Travel Needs. When buying hybrid cars, you should consider your work and home locations. Most Hybrid cars are made for urban or suburban travel. Short trips are most suitable for fuel savings, when hybrid cars are using electric engines at low RPMs. Conversely, driving on a highway or interstate travel won’t see much of the expected fuel reduction.

When is the Price Right. The other consideration for consumer before finally buying hybrid cars is the cost. Hybrid cars, are priced higher than gas-powered counterparts due to the fact that production of hybrid cars are still in low numbers and has more mechanically complex to build. But bear in mind that the upfront higher cost of your hybrid will be eventually offset over the long term by fuel saving due to higher fuel efficiency.

Tax Incentives Helps. Buying hybrid cars at present is encouraged by the Federal State, due to the long term benefits of limiting fuel usage. There several tax deduction for new buyers of hybrid cars. Several cities are offering free parking as an additional incentive for low-emissions vehicles. This list of considerations above is by no mean exhaustive. We have examined the factors from broad perspectives.

There is however, one key criterion you need to seriously consider when making your buying decision, namely how a Hybrid car fit into your lifestyle and travelling habits, whether you as an urbanite or a trans-state person is critical in buying that hybrid car..

While it is a fact that Environmentally friendly hybrid cars will be the new future vehicles of today’s roads, the greater question is, are you game for it yet?

The “Green era” is upon us, after hundreds of years destroying the planet, human kind has finally decided to take care of Earth. Governments across the globe are at last trying to set up schemes so industries will reduce their CO2 emissions, one of the major players in the global warming game.

One industry that has been investing big to work under the “eco friendly” label is the Printing industry. Over the years Printers have upgraded their printing facilities to reduce carbon footprint as well as reduce environmental impact by working with biodegradable inks and recycled papers.

But like in other industries, there are many Printers saying that have the rights to work under the “green printing label” when they don’t. This brings us to the sole purpose of this article. What makes a printer environmentally friendly?

To be considered an environmentally friendly Printer first and foremost, the Printer must earn a series of green credentials like the ISO 14001 Certificate.

The ISO 14001 is an international standard that specifies the actual requirements for an EMS (Environmental Management System). The ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standards exist to help organisations minimize how their operations negatively affect the environment and cause adverse changes to air, water, or land. They comply with applicable laws, regulations and other environmentally oriented requirements and continually improve on the above.

This certificate is not an easy one to obtain it requires planning and investments of time and money that is why it is one of the most respected green credentials there is.

Another well respected credential is the one from the FSC – Forest Stewardship Council – a certification system that provides internationally recognized standard-setting, trademark assurance and accreditation services to companies, organisations, and communities interested in responsible forestry.

The FSC certification is very similar to the PEFC – the world’s largest forest certification system. The PEFC works throughout the entire forest supply chain to promote good practice in the forest and to ensure that timber and non-timber forest products are produced with respect for the highest ecological, social and ethical standards. Thanks to its eco-label, customers and consumers are able to identify products from sustainably managed forests.

Other green credentials will vary from country to country.  There is a hand full of local green credentials a Printer could earn to reinforce their environmental concern and really earn that “Green Printing Label”.

Type of Paper used

Many Printers are opting for recycled paper but quality might not be as good as normal paper. By earning the FSC & PEFC certifications a Printer assures the paper that is being used comes from sustainable managed forests.

Reducing Carbon Footprint

There are many ways to reduce a printing facility carbon footprint. Reducing energy consumption is the major player here and my suggestion is to hire an energy consultancy firm to do a Carbon Trust Survey, which will indentify areas, where energy could be saved reducing the Mill’s carbon footprint.

If a Printer complies with all those items mentioned above it sure has the rights to work under the “Green Printing Label”.

Green Dating: Attract Environmentally Friendly Singles Just Like You!

October 8, 2010 by

Chances are if you are reading this article you fall into a sub-group known as the eco-sexuals. You do your part to keep the planet in good health. You care about your body, spirit, the environment and have a particular diet or lifestyle which you have made not just for health reasons but for ethical ones. Your life is in balance, the time is right, but perhaps you just haven’t found that special someone to share it with.

The dating scene is difficult: this one smokes or that one likes hamburgers, or heaven forbid you find out late into dinner, they are a Republican! You are weary from the search and ready to give your all. Perhaps you have already run the course of love with someone who didn’t think the same as you do on matters such as diet or conservation. Perhaps it drove you to separation or divorce.
Why not be picky this time? If you like doing outdoor activities or political activism, love animals and don’t eat them or use their products, if you believe in conservation, you may want to narrow the scope a bit. Did you know of those that consider themselves vegetarian, only 4% of those people are vegan? Makes meeting another vegan very difficult. With such strict dietary requirements wouldn’t it be nice to have a friend or partner on your wavelength to share ideas and meals with?

Don’t despair. There are online dating services geared toward green-living folks like you! By beginning with the simple expectation of new friendship, you can make connections with like-minded individuals and expect some interesting conversation with people around the globe.

For this article, I decided it was especially important to practice before I preached, so I joined a few green dating websites. And then the dread hit me immediately: The online dating experience is sort of akin to the stages of grief.

The first stage is when you decide to peruse the profiles out there. This can be done for free, no obligation to join. You experience a combination of disbelief, anger or self doubt. You say to yourself, “I can’t believe it has come to this. What about the romance of chance? Has dating turned into EBAY, for crying out loud? What ever happened to meeting someone face to face, the universe aligning the stars so the convergence can happen? Am I so inept I can no longer just meet people and be sociable, must I order from a catalog?”

Perhaps these statistics will be encouraging. According to her online article for MSN.com, Meredith Broussard found these facts about the world of dating:

• 44% of adult Americans are single –or over 100 million available partners.
• Of this only two percent of men and nine percent of women have found their loves at the bar. She recommends Starbucks as an alternative.
• 63% of married couples meet through a network of friends, but 40% or 40 million people meet through online dating services.

The second stage is bargaining. “Okay I’ll try this, but I won’t like it. This seems stupid and desperate, but I am sick of my mother and friends bothering me to give it a try. How many times can I have that conversation?” And as you scroll though, one profile catches your eye. So you make a bargain. “Well they don’t seem so bad. Maybe I’d err…umm…like to write them.” You need to join in order to make contact with anyone on the website, and so you do, but “just on a limited time basis,” you reassure yourself. Many of the websites give you either free trial time or profile viewing capabilities, so you can participate with no obligation to pay unless you like so this makes it easier to dive into the process.

The third stage is a mixture of fascination and embarrassment. You begin to write your profile, wondering if this stuff really will work and how to describe yourself and what you are looking for without sounding desperate or cheesy.
To get you in the proper frame of mind, London based hypnotist, Tanya Haden Tebb, recommends in her e-book about dating and relationships, How To Attract Men-The Goddess Secrets, to get right with yourself first. She recommends taking the time to look at your self in the mirror. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, see yourself positively, love your attributes and bless them rather than focusing on your faults. She also suggests making a “man (or woman) map.” By getting the reader to list not only what attributes they want out of a partner, but also planting key words to the unconscious like, “I will know my special someone when they say this to me…” Haden Tebb says the implication to the unconscious helps one to manifest this person because of your own clarity. To read more go to www.How-To-Attract-Men.com

Green singles is run by long-time couple, Mary and Alan Shulman. It began as a newsletter in 1985 and has grown about 20 percent every year in the last three years alone. They have a high success rate of matching people with special interest which makes it hard for them to meet others with similar interests otherwise. Both hetero and homosexuals can post profiles. This list matches where their members’ interests lie:

• The earth, ecology & environment
• Peace, social justice, & equal rights for humans and animals
• Natural living & alternative medicine
• Vegetarian, organic & other healthy lifestyles
• Spirituality & personal growth
• Nature/outdoor activities
• Theatre, music & the arts
• Holistic & new age philosophies
• Green politics and world events

http://www.greensingles.com or their offshoot site, http://www.veggielove.com, (just for vegetarians and vegans) allows you to post your profile for free. You pay for contact credits, ($12 for three to begin with,) or pay for full membership in 3 month installments, (the first quarter is $24.)

Earth wise singles, http://www.ewsingles.com is another international green-dating site. It costs $14.95 for three months of membership but you can look at profiles for free.

http://www.loveisgreen.org offers searches that include polyamorous affairs for homo and heterosexuals as well.

With any on-line dating be prepared to be contacted by people who won’t match what you’re looking for—maybe even comically or horrifically so. Be nice. It’s better to respond with a “no thanks” than nothing at all. After all, people are putting themselves out there, just as vulnerably as you and courtesy makes for better karma. And don’t let this discourage you. There are many people who are members for a long time before finding their special someone, just as there are those who fall in love with the first contact they make. Member “Paul” from Green Singles writes:

I have had my profile on the site for several years. Although I met many interesting women and had some wonderful times, nothing really gelled until lately. When Pam and I met, it wasn’t love at first sight, it took about 30 seconds. We both felt that we had known each other in another life and the attraction was total. We married after knowing each other a few weeks and neither of us had done so before. She is now moving from Vermont to be with me in Canada. There is plenty of room for her horses here and she is delighted to be out of the US and in a gentler less crazy place. –Paul

One of the great things about the sites, and the experience in general, is if you widen your search, keep an open mind, you can indeed meet interesting people from all over the world. And there is something to be said in getting to know a person first through correspondences, something old-fashioned and surprisingly romantic. It takes courage to post a profile, and even more courage to contact someone whose profile you like.

If you discover you are kindred spirits, there is an excitement in sending and receiving messages and essentially starting on the foot of friendship first, as opposed to mere physical attraction. The chase can be more seductive through letters and listening to someone’s voice over the phone. Fantasy life can be extra fulfilling because one begins to believe anything can happen as you imagine, “This could be the one!”

I asked one contact In CA what attracted him to a green dating service he said:

In my marriage my wife and I drifted apart. We discovered we wanted and cared about different things. She was focused on materialistic pursuits, always getting more, whereas I care deeply about the planet and improving life, not just for myself but for the entire planet. I am sick of being set up for blind dates, you never know what you’re going to get, so I decided this time I would like to get to know like-minded individuals who share the same interests I do. After all, sexual attraction eventually fades and then you’re left sitting on the clock, so it may as well be with someone you really have a lot in common with, with whom you can share a more multi-faceted life.

Another contact said he took a marketing approach to online dating, (not in his profile but in choosing a website [greensingles.com]) He wrote:

Certain sites seem to appeal to certain segments of people and this seemed the best fit in that many of the women seemed healthy and strong in who they are and their outlook, so [its] a good place to start.

Indeed these sites are good places to start. The last stage of the process is acceptance. You become okay with putting yourself out there again, the laughs and rewards well worth it.

Shannon Sloan Spice is a freelance writer for several magazine publications. She is also a fan of Tanya Haden Tebb’s dating and relationship E-book that reveals to wome what men really want, plus secrets about how to attract men. More details at www.How-To-Attract-Men.com

Running Your Car On Water – Environmentally Effective?

August 11, 2010 by

Some people talk about environmental factors associated with being able to run cars on water. In fact, hydrogen cars are listed as being totally emission free. This is because the only emission they release is water vapor.

HHO gas is used to completely replace the fuel or to replace part of the fuel within a vehicle. HHO gas is created when water undergoes a particular type of chemical change and that occurs at the time when electricity is added.

The first thing to consider is how much does your car, with its current gasoline-based engine, emit into the atmosphere? It depends on your vehicle, but tons of green house gases which poisons humans and destroys the environment by increasing global warming, are constantly released into the atmosphere.

By adding a hydrogen generator to your current vehicle, you can cut gas usage by 50-100%. This means that you can add half a tank to a full tank of gas for each fill up!

It does not take long to install a conversion kit (or even make one yourself) if you want to try out the benefits for yourself, and you can easily remove it if it does not meet your expectations when assisting you in providing a cleaner environment. Some people ask why they should bother considering the huge amounts of money spent and how can one single vehicle make a difference?

This may be true. One single vehicle might not make a huge impact, but it can and if you notice the difference and tell a few people, they will try it and tell a few more people, creating an enormous chain effect. Many people believe that one person alone cannot make a difference to help the environment.

But one person can definitely open the way for others to follow and replicate the same practices to save energy and preserve our environment. In the meantime, you get to enjoy saving lots of money and greatly increase your gas mileage without using hardly any gas.

Options for running a car on water are becoming more and more popular, not just because of environmental factors but also for the cost saving elements that are bringing countless people onto the idea of using HHO gas and hydrogen generators in their cars. They are easy to install, they are inexpensive when compared to the savings that can be had from them, and they use a renewable source that can be found anywhere for free.

When taking this into consideration and then adding to it the environmental factors, it is little wonder why the running a car on water idea is becoming very popular. There are many people who may pass up this opportunity, even if they want to do something for the environment because they do not believe that they can make a difference. Even one individuals single impact is well worth it when it comes to preserving our environment.

It seems that everyone is talking about going green nowadays. We are all aware of the difference it would make to our health and that of our planet if we were to live our lives in a more environmentally friendly manner. While it might be unrealistic to suggest that we completely give up modern day comforts such as our cars, there is a way that each of us can do our part in protecting the environment and making our lives healthier. That is by buying green products that focus on their environmental impact—including how they are made, packaged, shipped, and recycled post-use.

Eco shopping is becoming more and more popular with each passing day. More and more people are interested in buying natural products that are healthier and less damaging to the environment. Buying eco-products are the perfect way of going green. Here’s how they help make an impact:

Materials & Process – green products are made with materials that aren’t as harmful to the environment and can be reused without expending significant energy. They are also manufactured using a process that lessens environmental impact.

Packaging – eco products reduce the amount packaging such that it protects the product but doesn’t have excess. Green products also use packaging materials that degrade more quickly than conventional packaging.

Shipping – even if a product is manufactured with its environmental impact at the forefront, an inefficient shipping process can negate those benefits. Local products typically have less of a negative environmental impact than products that are shipped from afar.

Recycling – green products can be reused and recycled, which reduces the number of future products manufactured and amount of waste that sit in landfills.

Green shopping can be faster and more convenient than the conventional form of shopping. Shopping online saves a car trip and there are a number of eco-focused shops online where you can browse a green buying guide and order from a wide range of eco-friendly products. In fact, you might be surprised at the diversity of green products you can find online including appliances, baby products, computers, clothing, cosmetics, food, gifts, household products, pet products, and more.

Some people assume that buying green will always be more expensive than the conventional alternative. This isn’t necessarily the case. In many cases, green products cost the same as non-green. Often, you can take advantage of special offers such as discounts or free shipping for orders over a certain amount of money.

The easiest way to make an impact on the environment is to buy green when you can. Eco buying is a great way to make a change for the better—a healthier you and a healthier environment. If you take some time to look over a green buying guide, you will find that the variety of green products you can choose from is amazing. And when the eco product is the same or even better quality, why not opt for something that helps preserve the earth and improves your life? You too can be an environmentally conscious consumer and eco shopping is a very good start.

Even if the country you live and work in does not happen to use the US Dollar, I think you get the picture. The gifts listed in this article are both eco friendly and they don’t cost very much. Anyone who has tried to source environmentally friendly gifts in the past will most likely have noticed that you need to dig a little deeper in your pockets to purchase ‘greener’ products. Here I would like to introduce you to ten eco products that you can purchase to promote your business without breaking the bank open to do so.

I have scanned hundreds of promotional gifts websites from around the globe and have seen that for the most part, the same eco gifts are available. The information presented here should apply to you regardless of where you do business. If you would like to send out eco promotional products in your next advertising campaign, then please read on…

Promotional Pens: Promotional pens are very popular promotional gifts all around the world. Today, pens are one of the best selling ‘green’ gift options available. Pens are particularly sought after because they are useful. Everyone needs to write. Some of the most popular eco friendly pens available are manufactured from biodegradable cornstarch. Due to the very fact that these pens are biodegradable, you need to understand that they will over time discolor and will actually disappear if you put them in the ground. Other popular pens include those made out of recycled CD cases, used newspapers and plastic cups. Please note that these pens are all called different things from website to website. Bic have recently launched the Ecolutions range of pens. They look fantastic and are available in many mix-n-match colours but be warned that they are only 32% recycled.

Promotional Pencils: Like pens, pencils are used regularly in the office which makes them an ideal promotional gift. Pencils can be found manufactured in paper, foil, plastic and of course wood. If you prefer wooden pencils, look for pencils manufactured with FSC certified wood. This is wood that comes from well sustainable, properly maintained forests.

Promotional Lanyards: Look for organic cotton lanyards for your next trade show or event. Lanyards are a popular promotional item because they offer such a large print area and they are very visible on the days you need them to be.

Promotional Plastic Drinks Bottles: These are perfect for outdoor sporting events and charity marathons. Many are now manufactured in recycled plastic from varying sources. Be careful and shop around for the best prices. A bottle that is inexpensive on one site could be quite expensive on another.

Promotional Key rings: Key rings are manufactured in a large range of recycled materials. From recycled leather to fashionable key rings made from plastic drinks bottles, keyrings offer you a very inexpensive means of getting your logo and message in front of your customers and keeping it there.

Recycles Plastic Bags: Plastic carrier bags are popular gifts at trade shows. Now they are available in a large range of colours. The most popular are biodegradable. Plastic carrier bags will only cost you pennies and they offer a large print area on two sides for your advertisement.

Mini Plastic Paperclips: Each country seems to have its own version of these popular desktop products. Small printable plastic paperclips are available in may colours and only cost a few pennies each. They normally come boxed in quantities of 100.

Promotional Coasters: Coasters are excellent promoters for restaurants, bars and the office board room. The least expensive are manufactured in recycled wood pulp but recycled plastic versions are also quite inexpensive as are recycled bonded leather coasters. Many can be printed in full digital color which offers you a brilliant and colorful promotional tool to get your message in front of your customers.

Fridge Magnets with Recycled Paper: Fridge magnets have been a big seller for many years. One of the most popular eco friendly versions can be cut into the shape of your choice. Attached to the magnet is a pad of recycled paper, perfect for taking phone notes or making a shopping list.

Paper Pad: Pads of paper are available in a lot of different sizes. Many can be printed in full colour for less than $1.00. Whether you only want to give away small jotter pads or you wish to give your customers a larger desk pad, recycled paper pads offer exceptional value for money.

Now I would like to invite you to visit my promotional gifts website. The site is packed with a large range of promotional eco friendly gifts and other popular gifts.
