The 2010 Cadillac DeVille is known as the DTS in most parts of the world, and like most large luxury cars the ’10 DTS is relatively heavy. Tipping the scales at approximately 4,009 pounds (depending on configuration and options), it is not surprising to see that the newest flagship luxury sedan from Cadillac struggles to garner an official EPA rating of 15 miles per gallon in the city driving and a meager 23 miles per gallon on the open highway.
While weight is certainly an issue in a car this size, the aging 4.6L Northstar engine and four speed automatic transmission are showing their age. With numerous competitors from both home and abroad offing similar power with only six cylinders and far less displacement, not to mention the use of regular unleaded fuel versus Cadillac’s reliance on premium high-octane fuel, it would seem that the weak link in this luxury sedan is under the hood. It is also worth noting that GM’s Northstar system is fairly heavy when compared to rivals, and the company plans on phasing the aging platform out in the near future in an attempt to remain relevant in a highly competitive market.
The fuel efficiency in the 2010 Cadillac Deville is further hampered by poor aerodynamics. The new Caddy sure looks the part of the stalwart American luxury sedan, but that old-school appearance costs points when it comes to drag. Unfortunately for environmentalists who would love to drive a Cadillac, image is certainly an important aspect of the brand and thus it is probably fair to say that the aerodynamics are unlikely to change radically in the near future.

Toyota RAV4: Stunning Power Meets Top-Notch Fuel Efficiency

November 6, 2010 by

Does the thought of driving through the great open outdoors bring a sparkle to your eyes?  Do you love to feel the breeze in your hair as you step on the gas on highways and country roads?  Then the first thing you should eye is an excellent SUV that can plow through the harsh landform and hostile weather conditions that the great outdoors can throw at it.

The RAV4 from Toyota is one of your best options.  For starters, this is one of the most affordable high end SUVs around. Right from its launch in 1994, this car has given the opportunity to SUV lovers to proudly explore the great outdoors in ways they could not even imagine before.  Here are just some of the reasons why this car has ruled the roost among SUVs for quite a few years now.

Excellent safety measures: All season tires that work perfectly in most hostile weather conditions along with Toyota’s very own STAR Safety System make the car one of the safest to drive.  Besides, additional safety additions like rear bumper step with black protector molding and child safe locks on all doors were pretty thoughtful additions. All safety systems are standard features in all models of the Toyota RAV4.
Good fuel efficiency: An SUV that gets 19 miles per gallon in urban driving conditions and 26 miles per gallon on highways is very fuel efficient.  All the driver needs to do is fill up the tank, and go out to explore his surroundings, keeping the worries about being stranded without a gas station nearby out of mind.
Power-packed: A V6 engine under the hood, with a 5-speed automatic transmission packs plenty of punch to get the driver through a host of unforgiving landforms. The engine manages to post a torque rating of approximately 246 at 4,700 rotations per minute. The 4-wheel drive, supported by four 17″ aluminum wheels allows silky smooth driving, even in hostile weather conditions.

The RAV4 is soon to get a hybrid model, which is supposed to hit the market some time in 2011. Until then, the gasoline driven variant is the only one available, but weekend adventurers should not worry, even the general model of this SUV is enough to satisfy the adventurer in you.

Feel like grabbing the wheel of a Toyota RAV4 on the way to a brand new adventure? Then come to Toyota of Des Moines, one of the largest dealers of Toyota cars in the US.

Steve Luebke is the General Manager of Toyota of Des Moines, one of the largest dealers of Toyota cars in the US. His years of experience in the field make him an expert on vehicles of most kinds.

Buick Bumps Up The Fuel Efficiency Of The 2010 Buick Lesabre

October 29, 2010 by

The new 2010 Buick Lesabre is a reintroduction of the older model with all the tweaks we have been waiting for. Offering a driver information center with a tire inflation monitor, you are offered the best technology Buick has to offer. Also with full-range traction control, the drive is quite smooth. Building up to the best part, there is a 3.8 liter 3800 Series II, 30 valve, v6 engine for energy without the fuel usage being great. Fuel efficiency is a big consumer driver and the 2010 Buick Lesabre offers what consumers are looking for.

With a gas mileage of 20 city and 29 highway-great for the Buick; the ’10 Lesabre is a better model than previous versions that haven’t been so economic where fuel was concerned. The overall style of the Lesabre is quite elegant and still presidential in effect, offering the expansive style with the new benefit of a more fuel-economy focused vehicle. The price for the 2010 Lesabre are in the average range for the traditional style and is offering a taste of the good old days with a dash of the new.

There are several options with the 2010 Buick Lesabre from advanced features of the older models, to new technologies and systems throughout the vehicle. The Lesabre has been reinvented for a smooth drive, a stylish ride, and a gas-saving family car that doesn’t mimic it’s older ancestors in gas usage as you would think from such a large body vehicle. The overall effect is a fairly priced vehicle with all the features of a new car and the same feel of the old comfortable sedan, getting you where you want to go for less than you want to spend.

Differing Engine Sizes In The Chevy Trailblazer Give Varied Fuel Efficiency Ratings

October 24, 2010 by

The Chevrolet TrailBlazer ended production in 2009, replaced by the Traverse, a midsize crossover SUV based on the platform of the Chevy Malibu sedan. Chevrolet claims that the Traverse has the best fuel economy of any eight-passenger crossover.

The Traverse is powered by a 3.6-liter DOHC V6 engine, with direct fuel injection to improve both power and fuel economy. Although it is smaller than the 4.2-liter inline six used in last year’s TrailBlazer, it is nearly as powerful, with 281 horsepower to the 4.2-liter’s 285. (Traverse LTZ models have 288 horsepower.) The 3.6-liter engine is also much more fuel efficient, thanks in part to the Traverse’s standard six-speed automatic; the TrailBlazer’s transmission had only four speeds.

The 2010 Traverse’s EPA city/highway estimates are 17/24 for front-wheel-drive (FWD) models, 16/23 with all-wheel drive (AWD), significantly better than the TrailBlazer’s lackluster 14/20 rating. As Chevrolet claims, the Traverse’s EPA ratings are as good as or better than rivals like the Honda Pilot (17/23 with 2WD, 16/22 with 4WD) and Ford Flex (17/24 with 2WD, 16/22 with AWD), although its advantage is very slim. The Traverse falls short of the 18/24 rating of the FWD Toyota Highlander V6, and unlike Toyota, Chevrolet does not offer a hybrid version. However, the Highlander cannot match the Traverse’s passenger and cargo capacity.

Road testers say it is possible to match or even exceed the Traverse’s EPA ratings in careful driving, but brisk acceleration takes its toll on the Chevrolet’s real-world fuel economy. Edmunds averaged only 14.6 mpg with a 2009 AWD model. Fortunately, the Traverse uses regular gasoline, despite a very high 11.4:1 compression ratio, another benefit of the direct-injection system.

Fuel Efficiency In The 2010 Ford F150

October 22, 2010 by

The 2010 Ford F150 is a full size pickup truck that is sold in the United States and throughout the world. It has been the best-selling vehicle in the United States for the last twelve years. The F150 can be ordered with only one engine, a 4.6 liter eight cylinder powerplant that has a two valve per cylinder design and electronic fuel injection. The engine produces two hundred forty-eight horsepower at four thousand seven hundred fifty revolutions per minute, and pulls two hundred ninety-four pound feet of torque at four thousand revolutions per minute.
The F150 can only be ordered with an automatic transmission, a four speed with overdrive unit that is unchanged from the previous year. Fuel efficiency in the F150 is dependent on whether the truck is ordered with a two wheel drive or a four wheel drive system. The F150 in its standard trim is a two wheel drive vehicle whose power is driven through the rear wheels. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency rates the F150 in two wheel drive trim at fifteen miles per gallon in city driving, and nineteen miles per gallon on the highway. The F150 can be ordered with an optional four wheel drive system, which decreases the fuel economy of the vehicle slightly. With the optional four wheel drive system, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has rated the F150 at fourteen miles per gallon on the city circuit and eighteen miles per gallon on the highway circuit. The F150 has a maximum towing capacity of eleven thousand three hundred pounds when properly equipped, although utilizing the towing capacity will decrease the fuel efficiency of the vehicle.
