Green vs Green ( Can this effect the small business)

Green VS Green

We all know how important green issues are in today’s society and within the business sector, but do we appreciate that there is and probably will be a very strong competitiveness between the organisation and charities, which help to promote and influence these growing concerns.

I have had the pleasure in advising a small manufacturing company on how to implement a procedure with the concerns of Forestry management applications due to the timber requirements for each manufactory product with could use the implementations of the FSC  ( Forestry Stewart Council) procedures to there timber products.

These implementations to introduce these procedures where obviously, correct, not only for the environmental reasons, but also as I strong marketing tool, for future sales and customers requesting on some kind of  Forestry controlled timber management programme to ensure that the forests where controlled to the degree of non deforester.

Within the timber industry there are probably two main organisations FSC Forestry Stewardship Council and the PEFC Council (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification schemes, both are independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization.

At first, you would probably think to yourself that, both organization would basically do the same job, and to a degree, they do, but surprising, they will not recognize, each others procedures, The FSC do not recognize the PEFC procedures, and visa versa, a bit like having a light bulb with does not fit into a light bulb socket.

Some people might say that, there is nothing wrong with this, and it generates good competition within this market, but you must remember that these are non-profit, non-governmental organization.

It is said that the FSC is more like the Rolls Royce and PEFC is a bit like the Ford Fiesta this is due to that the guideline procedures for the FSC are more stringent than the PEFC, probably with regards to the timber controlled management system and FSC trademark Advertising right etc. But you must remember that if you implement the FSC Procedure you will not be aloud with to work against the PFEC Procedure, so therefore you would have to implement both procedures next to each other, I think the main reason for this is that, and I am sure they will not mind me saying this, that PEFC is more popularly with regards to its implementation practicability and for its general usage.

Talking to some companies, they showed that they would be a concern that FSC procedures a loan, where not practical enough this would be due to the sometime volatile  exporting and importing of timber form the there appropriate countries , this would also cover the potential forward planning  requirements to meet excepted manufacturing and delivery dates. Especially for the small business, who can have a general problem, within its own entity, never mind having a concern regarding that extra green concern?

Please don’t get me wrong, both these organizations offer a fantastic service, or facility with they own areas of expertise, and the overall procedure implementations are both to the level that they deserve with each other.

We must also remember that it is not just Forestry timbers that are at concern here but there are the other items like paper, packaging, and all forestry relayed products, will probably have to come through the one of the following organizations, unless of course you decide to ignore timbers that come form sustainable management Forrest.

Car Insurance ? the Financial Effect of Emissions

July 9, 2010 by

Many of us who care about issues such as climate change tend to see the purchase of emission-friendly cars as one way of showing we care about the environment. In fact, there is another powerful reason for choosing the right vehicle: cheaper running costs – and even lower insurance.

To understand why, you only have to look at how much a car costs to run each year: up to £3,500 a year on average, taking into account insurance, vehicle tax, fuel, servicing, maintenance and finance costs, where applicable. This is a considerable expense.

Many motorists also face much higher running costs due to the relative inefficiency of their car’s engine. It follows, therefore, that engines where efficiency is higher and emissions much lower will typically be much cheaper to run.

Lower emissions also mean your vehicle tax is cheaper. This is because current pricing strategy for vehicle tax in the UK rewards environmentally-friendly cars. Since March 2001 vehicle tax is calculated by taking into account the emissions of the vehicle in terms of grams of CO2 produced per kilometre, or g/km. Put simply, the less CO2 your car churns out, the less vehicle tax you pay.

The difference can be striking. For example, a car that produces between 101 and 120 g/km pays £35 a year in vehicle excise duty, or VED. This includes cars such as the new Volvo C30. By contrast, a 2-litre petrol Renault Espace with emissions of more than 225 g/km will cost more than £300 a year to tax.

The new VED system includes Y-registration and newer vehicles and did not start with the inception of the 51-plate, as is commonly believed. Vehicles produced before this date are charged in terms of engine capacity in cubic centimetres.

In this case your vehicle could cost you much more to run if it is a 2-litre engine (2,000 cc), even if its emissions are quite environmentally-friendly – especially relevant in the case of a diesel engine.

It should also be admitted that if a vehicle has low emissions it will not usually return the highest performance figures.

This may be a little different when it comes to the average diesel car, as the majority have turbo boosts to make up for the lack of power in this type of engine. Driven carefully they usually return exceptional fuel economy, depending on size of engine, but will usually still give you a reasonable level of performance compared to a petrol car with similarly low emissions.

Even so, having a car with a more economical engine means you save plenty of money on your annual fuel bill.

Another important point is that you will usually find that your motor insurance will be cheaper on a car such as this, as the engine will not normally be huge in capacity and not too performance-orientated.

All in all, helping to protect the environment as a motorist can significantly cut your driving costs.

Remember the lower the emissions your car produces the cheaper you will find your vehicle tax, fuel bills and, in all probability, your car insurance quote .

what would be the effect on the atmosphere if all vehicles were hydrogen fueled?

The reason I ask is I’ve not seen any studies on the effect of hundreds of thousands of vehicles constantly pumping water vapor into the atmosphere. would a city like L.A. be enveloped in a perpetual fog and incessant rain? If all the vehicles in the world were hydrogen fueled, Would the world eventualy be under a blanket of clouds ? if so the clouds would block out light but would allow the UV rays to penetrate and heat the earth. The clouds would then act as a blanket and hold the heat in causeing the polar ice to melt and flood the world.Could this be possible?

Why By Eco Products ? Climate Change And The Greenhouse Effect

April 26, 2010 by

Climate change has been hotly discussed and debated in the last few years with recent summits of world leaders not providing agreement on what can be done to halt the rising temperature and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

However, whilst the politicians continue to argue, more and more people are turning to eco friendly products to help reduce their impact on the environment by reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.

But there is often a lot of confusion around climate change and the greenhouse effect leaving people unsure about what products to buy and how they can  help reduce their greenhouse gas emissions.

But climate change is relatively straightforward. Greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide and methane, which occur naturally in the environment have been increasing due to pollution humans have been pumping into the environment; from cars, aeroplanes, power stations, factories and our homes. These gases insulate the earth, preventing the warmth generated by the sun’s light from escaping hence warming the planet – just like a greenhouse.

As carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas emitted by man, slowing its output and reducing our carbon footprint is perhaps the most direct way we can slow the effects of climate change. And as most of the carbon dioxide is generated through energy production, from power plants that heat our homes to the exhausts of motor cars that drive us to work – reducing our energy consumption will is the simplest way we can do this.

And there is a vast range of energy saving gadgets and energy efficiency products in the eco friendly market. From electricity monitors to help you discover where you are consuming and wasting energy to radiator panels that boost the efficiency of your heating system.

Heatkeeper radiator panels reduce emissions by improving heat output

Anything that can help you reduce energy consumption will go a long way to cut down on the greenhouse gases that are emitted by your energy use and help to reduce the effects of climate change.
