One of the better selling American compact pick up trucks year in and year out is the Dodge Dakota, which has been produced by Chrysler under the Dodge brand since 1987. The 2010 Dodge Dakota is sure to continue the trend of being a top selling pickup truck. The 2010 Dodge Dakota comes with two different engine options. With the exception of the Dodge Dakota Laramie, every trim comes standard with a 3.7 liter, six cylinder engine which produces 210 horsepower and up to 235 pound feet of torque.
For many pick up truck purchasers, the V6 engine is fine for everyday travel, but is not powerful enough for larger towing needs. For those who need more power and towing capacity, two V8 options are available. The top of the line V8 engine which comes standard in the Dodge Dakota Laramie, but is an upgrade in all other trims is a 4.7 liter engine. This engine, which comes as a flexible fuel engine, generates up to 302 horsepower and 329 pound feet of torque.
Most of the Dodge Dakota trims come standard with 2 wheel drive, but an all wheel drive option can be selected for an additional cost. The 2010 Dodge Dakota gets typical fuel efficiency for a pick up truck. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) projects that the 3.7 liter V6 will get 16 miles per gallon in the city and 20 miles per gallon on the highway. The V8 engine option yields more power, but lowers fuel efficiency. The EPA estimates the Dakota with a V8 gets 14 miles per gallon in the city and 19 miles per gallon on the highway.
All of the trims within the 2010 Dakota come standard with an automatic transmission. The engines in the 2010 Dakota are similar to the 2009 options, which were upgraded from the options available in the 2009 Dakota.

Fuel economy is an important metric to consider when shopping for a vehicle. The modern consumer is concerned about rising fuel costs. Additionally, stewards of our natural environment remind us of the importance of efficient use of energy. For the benefit of the automotive consumer, let’s take a look at fuel efficiency in the 2010 Dodge Dakota.
The Dodge Dakota is a powerful truck. For work applications, people need these vehicles to haul heavy loads. As a result, fuel economy is rarely the primary focus of the engineering of the vehicle. With best-in-class towing and payload on some models, fuel efficiency in the 2010 Dodge Dakota has reasonable limits. As trucks go however this is a midrange vehicle for those looking to combine looks power and affordability.
However, considering these factors, the Dodge Dakota features competitive fuel economy figures. Most rate the Dodge Dakota at 20 miles per gallon on the highway. Under the additional strain of city driving, this figure drops to 15 miles per gallon. For the four-wheel-drive version, 14 miles per gallon can be expected when driving in the city.
The Environmental Protection Agency has rated the Dodge Dakota at 15 miles per gallon in the city and on the highway. In four-wheel-drive, the fuel efficiency in the 2010 Dodge Dakota drops by one mile per gallon according to this government agency.
While a work truck will not deliver the same fuel economy as a small car, the fuel efficiency in the 2010 Dodge Dakota is competitive in its class. If you need a beefy vehicle to tow heavy cargo, this truck meets the task without guzzling gas in an irresponsible way.

My Truck has 118,000 miles on it and it is in excellent mechanical condition. I just want to try to get better gas mileage since gas is $3.85 a gallon were I live. My truck is not a everyday driver. Would changing to a better oil help? Maybe a Synthetic or blend.
What kind of gas mileage would a 2000 Dodge Dakota 2WD REGULAR CAB get?

You can get smaller trucks like this for cheap, but I am thinking that is because of such high prices in gas. Do smaller trucks like this one get good gas mileage?
