With gas prices fluctuating, more people are considering smaller, fuel-efficient cars but do not want to sacrifice the creature comforts they have come to depend on. Nissans response to this growing demand is the new Versa. It offers compact-car affordability and gas mileage while providing the comfort and quality of a mid-size sedan. Welcome to Kelley Blue Books Review of the Nissan Versa. Entry-level cars have a reputation for being meagerly equipped and cramped. The Nissan Versa challenges that reputation with uncharacteristic safety, technology and performance features and a generous helping of cabin space. The Versa is available in hatchback and sedan forms, in basic S and better-equipped SL trims. Several packages are also available, offering features almost never found in this segment. Both the sporty hatchback and practical sedan deliver unprecedented legroom and options at a price that wont break the bank. Ford Escape Hybrid – Kelley Blue Book’s Review

October 29, 2010 by

www.kbb.com While many other crossover SUVs are getting sleeker, more urban exteriors, the Ford Escape Hybrid has received a rugged redesign. The heightened beltline and sculpted hood remind us that the Escape Hybrid may offer great fuel economy, but first and foremost it is an SUV. Ford’s design team takes its environmentally friendly vision even further by using 100-percent recycled seat materials, and Ford purports that, through a carbon off-set program, it has countered any greenhouse gases created by its production. Add to this SUV-like versatility, cargo room and four-wheel drive, and the Ford Escape Hybrid seems a natural choice for those who like to rough it without roughing-up the planet. Volkswagen Concept BlueSport – Kelley Blue Book

FOR MORE AUTO SHOW VIDEOS & NEWS VISIT: www.kbb.com Volkswagen Concept BlueSport. Volkswagen’s latest concept car will reach 60 mph in 6.2 seconds on its way to a top speed of 140 mph. With specs like that, most Americans would be surprised to learn that it also runs on diesel fuel and can return highway fuel economy of up to 50 miles per gallon. Developed for “maximum driving fun and minimal fuel consumption,” the lightweight, 180-horsepower Concept BlueSport demonstrates how mean and green can be perfect partners. Combining the low-end torque of a 300-horsepower V6, a six-speed DSG transmission and 45:55 front:rear weight distribution, the compact, mid-engine, rear-drive roadster promises big fun. On the economy front, the BlueSport steals a couple tricks from the hybrid playbook, employing an automatic start-stop system and regenerative braking. In its quest to happily unite agility and frugality, it also foregoes a folding hardtop in favor of a lighter, manually operated cloth roof. FOR MORE CAR VIDEOS & REVIEWS VISIT: www.kbb.com Toyota Plug-in Hybrids. 2010 Toyota Prius. Some will tell you that plug-in hybrids are the answer to the twin problems of global climate change and our reliance on foreign sources of oil. Since plug-ins can operate for substantial distances without the use of gasoline, they turn in phenomenal miles-per-gallon figures and when operating in electric mode they produce no carbon dioxide emissions and virtually no other emissions, for that matter. Despite this, no major vehicle manufacturer has yet brought a plug-in hybrid to market, though some – notably General Motors and Toyota – have announced plans to do so in the relatively near future. Recently we sat down with Toyota hybrid expert Jaycie Chitwood to get a better understanding of the real benefits plug-ins will bring, what the technical challenges are in building and owning plug-ins and, importantly, what they will cost. Jeep Patriot – Kelley Blue Book’s Review

www.kbb.com With roots tracing back to World War Two, no manufacturer is more associated with go-anywhere, do-anything off-road capability than Jeep. Now, more than 60 years after its introduction, the definition of the Jeep brand is expanding. Unlike previous Jeeps, the Patriot is based on a front-drive, unibody compact car platform that it shares with the Jeep Compass and the Dodge Caliber. Although mechanically similar to those vehicles, the Patriot is designed to be more capable off-road than either the Caliber or Compass. The all new Patriot plows new ground for the Jeep brand in the compact SUV category. With good fuel economy, boxy Jeep styling and a starting price under $15000, the Patriot offers an interesting package for people looking for an affordable SUV they can take off road.
