Finding Out About Green Tea

Green teas have always been popular, especially in the Japanese cultures but have made their impact in the western world as well. Green tea has been used in many aspects in the last few years not only as a well brewed beverage but also added to supplements and other dietary items because of the rich antioxidants that this tea possess.
You maybe asking what exactly is green tea. Well really it is no different that your typical black tea. The only difference is the process that the green tea goes through that makes it different from the the traditional black teas. Black teas are highly processed, this is what gives them the darker color. A green tea is processed less and in some instances is grown in a different environment. Some high quality green teas are grown in the shade rather than the direct sunlight.
Green teas are made from the same tea plants as red and black tea but they undergo a very minimal oxidation process. Green tea originates from China although it has become the common tea of Japan. In fact in Japan green tea is commonly just called tea as this is the main type of tea of the Japanese culture.
Green tea has many special features to it that are not present in other types of tea. Green tea typically has a lower amount of caffeine than your typical cup of black tea. In fact green tea only has a fourth of the amount of caffeine as a equivalent sized cup of coffee. That is also about half of the amount of caffeine that a normal cup of tea contains.
To brew the perfect cup of green tea you will want to use a slightly cooler water than you would for your typical tea. The water used to brew green tea should be between 140 degrees F and 190 degrees F. The higher the quality of green tea used the cooler the water should be and the shorter the brewing time. The less expensive green teas will need to be brewed longer and at a higher temperature. Green teas typical use one teaspoon per cup of water and can also be steeped multiple times. You can typically steep a single serving of green tea leaves two to three times before discarding.
Green tea has become very popular in the Western World as it has been for centuries in the Eastern World. The health benefits that it provides and the great taste is just a few of the reasons for it’s popularity. It’s use in medical supplements and creams which have just begun to be approved by the FDA are also part of it’s popularity. The antioxidants in green tea are thought to be helpful in reducing the effects of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. It is also thought to help reduce the bad cholesterol and high blood pressure. Green tea has been used to increase metabolism and has been used in diet control supplements. Green tea has become the natural cure and remedy for many of the health care issues plaguing the nation. Research suggest that drinking 4 to 5 cups of green tea a day can greatly improve one’s health.

Everything About Dieting: #1 How Dieting Works
August 24, 2010 by admin
Dieting is one of those things that is completely integrated into American culture. On any given day, a huge portion of the U.S. population is “on a diet” and “counting calories” in one way or another. And look at how many of the diet names in the following list you recognize: The Atkins Diet, The Cabbage Soup Diet, The Grapefruit Diet, The Hollywood Miracle Diet, The Rice Diet, The South Beach Diet…
You probably recognize many of these names because you hear them all the time!
In this article, we will look first at weight gain and why gaining weight is so easy. Then we will look at what you can do about weight gain—in the form of diet and exercise—to maintain a consistent weight.
Your Body’s Efficiency
Have you ever wondered why, for so many people (and especially for anyone older than 30 years old), weight gain seems to be a fact of life? It’s because the human body is way too efficient! It just does not take that much energy to maintain the human body at rest; and when exercising, the human body is amazingly frugal when it comes to turning food into motion.
At rest (for example, while sitting and watching television), the human body burns only about 12 calories per pound of body weight per day (26 calories per kilogram). That means that if you weigh 150 pounds (68 kg), your body uses only about:
150 X 12 = 1,800 calories per day
Twelve calories per pound per day is a rough estimate.
Those 1,800 calories are used to do everything you need to stay alive:
They keep your heart beating and lungs breathing. They keep your internal organs operating properly. They keep your brain running. They keep your body warm.
In motion, the human body also uses energy very efficiently. For example, a person running a marathon (26 miles or 42 km) burns only about 2,600 calories. In other words, you burn only about 100 calories per mile (about 62 calories per km) when you are running.
Interesting facts:
You can see just how efficient the human body is if you compare your body to a car. A typical car in the United States gets between 15 and 30 miles per gallon of gasoline (6 to 12 km/L). A gallon of gas contains about 31,000 calories. That means that if a human being could drink gasoline instead of eating hamburgers to take in calories, a human being could run 26 miles on about one-twelfth of a gallon of gas (0.3 L). In other words, a human being gets more than 300 miles per gallon (120 km/L)! If you put a human being on a bicycle to increase the efficiency, a human being can get well over 1,000 miles per gallon (more than 500 km/L)!
That level of efficiency is the main reason why it is so easy to gain weight, as we will see in the next section.

What You Need To Know About Hybrid Cars And Suvs
August 10, 2010 by admin
In the effort to go green, a term we hear quite often is “hybrid cars”. What are hybrid cars, and what makes the purchase of one desirable in the effort to conserve energy? For the less than savvy vehicle shopper or the inquisitive learner, a small amount of research can answer many questions.
A hybrid vehicle is defined as any vehicle that uses two or more separate types of energy to propel the vehicle. The basic operating truth of a hybrid vehicle is that t
[removed][removed]
he gasoline engine receives assistance from another source for extra power, which allows the engine to run with less gasoline.
Primitive types of hybrid vehicles were experimented with for many years before they actually became a viable means of transportation. Today almost every major car maker is producing its own version of the hybrid. Hybrids and SUVs are offered at most dealerships. There are government-offered tax incentives and dealership rebates to make the purchase of a hybrid car or SUV more appealing to those who are undecided as to the type of vehicle they may purchase.
The purchase price of a hybrid or SUV can vary greatly, depending upon the maker and the degree of luxury. Basic models begin at around $20,000, with the price of the luxury SUV going well over $100,000. Many hybrid car owners agree that the money they save in fuel more than makes up for the minimal added cost of purchasing a hybrid. Reports show that the fuel efficiency of the hybrid car is around twice that of a comparable conventional automobile.
Once you have decided to purchase a hybrid vehicle, what are some other things to consider? What are the differences in hybrid cars and SUVs, and what makes them stand apart? There are several variations of the hybrid operating system.
In the conventional hybrid car and SUV, gasoline is converted to energy by the engine and the motor, and then stored in the batteries, to be used during the operation of the vehicle. Braking converts energy to electricity and stores in it the batteries. When the car is traveling very slowly, or stopped, the battery takes over and the engine is at rest.
Another type of hybrid is the Plug-in. These are similar to the conventional hybrids in that both use gasoline engines and electric motors. Plug-ins use large battery packs, which are recharged by connecting to household electricity. Plug-in cars are different from conventional hybrids in that they may be driven distances up to 40 miles, without using gasoline. In short, Plug-in hybrid cars have the same benefits of conventional hybrids, but have the longer driving range of conventional non-hybrid vehicles.
The simplest hybrid is the Start Stop type. These vehicles have engine controls, which shut off the engine when the car slows down or stops. When the driver accelerates, the batteries power the starter motor, which quickly switches on the engine. This is the lowest cost hybrid alternative.
Whatever the type, hybrid cars and SUVs are environmentally wise purchases. They continue to become more popular as we continue in our quest to go green.
