Will Eco-Friendly or “Green” cars ever be more powerful, and faster than “normal” non eco-friendly cars?

Basically, I want to know if petrol heads hate eco-friendly cars, or if they have the potential to be better than what we have currently, as well as fuel efficient

    Eco-friendly cars will eventually be much, much more powerful and faster since we are moving to those cars and eventually technological progression will focus only on those cars.

    Yes, it has already has happened, it is called the tesla roadster. The Tesla Roadster is a fully electric sports car. It is the first car produced by electric car firm Tesla Motors. Here are some excerpt’s from wikipedia about the tesla roadster.

    The car can travel 244 miles (393 km) on a single charge of its lithium-ion battery pack and accelerate from 0–60 mph (0–97 km/h) in 3.9 seconds. The top speed is electronically limited to 125 mph (201 km/h).

    The Roadster’s efficiency, as of September, 2008, is reported as equivalent to 120 miles per US gallon (51 km/l/140 mpg-
    For 2009, Tesla plans to deliver 1500 cars. The price for the 2009 models has been increased to US$109,000; options ranging from colors to audio to heavy duty cables can add another $10,000.

    There is minimal maintenance required for an electric vehicle. There are no oil changes, and brake maintenance is minor due to regenerative braking. Transmission, brake, and cooling system fluids need to be changed in a manner similar to gasoline-powered cars.

    The roadster is powered by a 3-phase, 4-pole electric motor, producing a maximum net power of 248 hp (185 kW). The motor is designed for rotational speeds of up to 14,000rpm, and delivers an efficiency of typically 90%, or 80% at peak power.

    Electric motors are inherently much more powerful and better at converting that power to motion than infernal combustion. hence why we have electric locamotives.

    Electric motors give maximum torque from 0rpm, from cold, and need no complex gearbox

    but the petrol heads rule the media so the UK top gear programme would rather crash a 250mph jet car than report a 350-400mph bulebird sitting in a garage for over 2 yeats for lack of sponsorship.

    eco, green and more powerful faster is an oxymoron. More powerful and faster means more energy, more energy means not green and not eco friendly.

    The Tesla is a fast powerful car, but today it burns coal, so its not real eco friendly or green. It is made from petroleum based composites, just like the Corvette.

    No eco friendly green dragster will ever beat a top fuel dragster.

    yes yes…once again, people taut the Tesla as gods gift to sports cars.

    One could easily remove the EV components and put a lightweight 250HP turbo 4cyl in its spot and achieve similar if not the same results.

    Matter of fact Check out the Ariel Atom…0-60 UNDER 3.0 seconds. Also notice that car was used as a shell for the Wrightspeed X1 EV…which after the conversion, is just as tick slower than the gas powered version.

    The gas powered Atom is also about $30,000 cheaper than the Tesla…just imagine what kind of performance any handy gear head could extract out of the Atom if they had another $30,000 to play with.

    So, anyway, back to your questions.

    Do we hate eco cars? Personally, I don’t. I see them for what they are. If you don’t love the drive or experience joy from a healthy V8…then by all means get one. I don’t mind sharing the road with a prius…but if the prius driver acts smug, then I get irritated.

    Potential to be better? Doubt it…we’ve extracted so much power out of the old ICE and developed motorsports to such dizzying degree that I highly doubt an Electric Motor will top it. Top Fuel Dragster…0-330mph in 4 seconds. F1…1000+hp motors, 250+mph speeds and razor sharp handling.

    Now find an Electric Motor that can accomplish that?? Better yet, find one with the same power output and see if it will even FIT in a car. 8,000Kw for the dragster and 1000Kw for the F1.

    The will be absolutely more powerful. By 2010 the first generation of eco-friendly cars will hit the market. They should do fairly well. If people can get past the battery life issue than second and future generation cars should be even better.

    you can have your eco friendly car on race tracks maybe around 2012, people nowadays are more focused on going green, thats why their working their way to find better alternative for fuels and makes them more efficient.
