Is there a car that is environmentally friendly that drives itself?

category: Going Green

It would be great to have an environmentally friendly car that drives itself so that even people with a severe disability or a disorder could get around and not contribute to the environmental disaster this world seems to be in.

I heard of a concept car than can drive itself by checking its position in the roadway. As it drives, it detects magnets that were embedded in the roadway along the center and shoulder lines. However it is not in production. I do know that out west, I forgot where exactly, but the snowplows use a similar technology and in whiteout conditions in the winter they use magnets in the road to guide their snowplows, but the actual driving is still done by a human who is looking at a screen in the snowplow.

Electric powered public transit, streetcars and trolley buses. San Francisco’s uses renewable power, too (hydroelectric from Hetch Hetchy) and they’re converting their diesel buses to biodiesel. Can’t get cleaner than that!

Isn’t this about what a city’s bus system does?
