Industry Honour for Green Office

category: Going Green

Pioneering work to create a sustainable workplace of the future – developed in the unlikely setting of a 1960s London office block – has been recognised by the facilities management industry.

Morgan Lovell picked up a highly commended accolade in the Best Practice In A Fit Out Project category, at the British Institute of Facilities Management Investors in FM Excellence awards.

The office transformation specialist received the award for its work to create a green workplace at its own London headquarters, located in Noel Street, Soho.

GMTV’s Penny Smith hosted the glittering ceremony, which took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

David Henderson, managing director of Morgan Lovell, said: “Judges were looking at the extent of facilities management integration throughout the whole process of planning, design, building and operating the facility.

“Our Noel Street headquarters demonstrate that it is possible to create a sustainable office refurbishment using the building stock we already have, in a cost-effective way – and achieve the social, economic and environmental benefits of a green workplace.”

The office was in the type of building that would have previously been viewed as an environmental write-off. However, Morgan Lovell’s office design and build team worked together to create a cost-effective and stylish workplace in tune with the environment.

Morgan Lovell’s office in Noel Street went on to achieve the highest BREEAM fit out environmental assessment score to date in the UK, receiving an award from the Building Research Establishment (BRE) as a result.

The company also recently secured a prestigious Green Apple Award for the office design and fit out.

As well as the BIFM accolade and the BRE and Green Apple awards, the Noel Street project has also been shortlisted in the 99% Campaign for Refurbishment, developed to find the best examples in the UK of carbon being cut in existing buildings. The award is organised by Building magazine and the winner is to be announced on November 18, 2008.

Morgan Lovell’s green office is also in the finals of the PFM Awards, as well as Haymarket’s Green Business Awards and the Emirates Glass Leaf Awards – which all take place later this year.
