This is an* excellent* tutorial, thank you!
Clear verbal instructions, clear video, and I love being shown the final product, it’s surprising how many people don’t show the end result of what they’re trying to get us to do (what we’re aiming for, lol) Your instructions are great, your personality is delightful! This review from someone who doesn’t have kids, I’m just a broad spectrum video reviewer. :D I agree with others about selling your diapers.

How would you add pul if you didn’t want to cover? And can you use flannel outer if your using pul?

I have a silly question, what do you use for wipes when using cloth diapers, with disposables you throw the wipes in the diaper and wrap it all in one, do you use regular disposable wipes, or re-usable ones also?

Thanks for the video and the link. I made my first one which isn’t exactly “great” but I think that has more to do with my sewing skills. :) I have a very chunky 19 month old and my dummy diaper fit him perfectly. :)

@schrenk – generally it is still a lower carbon impact. It takes a fair amount of water, but they should never be bleached bc the fabric loses absorbancy. Hot water, electricity to run the machines, they can be line dried (which will help with stains as well), and a small amount of detergent. Cotton fabrics take only about 30 years to biodegrade – so they will be gone in the baby’s lifetime! The cost is MUCH lower than disposables, and contain none of the synthetic chemicals/materials.

Thanks for the video – I’ve been cd’ing for almost 2 years and will never go back to disposables!!! Thought about making my own for some time now, and this looks too easy to not try. I will probably use a PUL lining so I don’t have to cover it, and add some closures with velcro (my daycare baby needs easy dipes).

What is the ecological impact of washing all those cloth diapers–when you take into account the hot water, bleach, detergent and clothes drying (assuming they aren’t hung on a line)?

This is going to make a great fancy dress costume.

  21. Berryflowers on November 21st, 2010 8:43 pm

@PalisPrincess no it won’t….is your clothes still filthy after you wash it? And if that were true ;millions of moms would not be cloth diapering!!

Hi…what is your seam allowance you’re using in the video, and, what is the length of the elastic? Thanks, great video! And to the two whining down below? You both call yourselves mothers acting the way you are? Drop it.
