I am pleased with the product in terms of its cleaning power and ecological impact, however I find that I sometimes need to add additional fabric softener to the load.

I wanted to like this detergent. Cheaper than the mainstream brands and labelled as environmentally friendly. However, it just does not get the laundry clean. After a couple weeks of using this, I noticed load after load coming out of the washing machine smelling almost as bad as when it went in. It does not get summer sweat stink out. Even using nice smelling fabric softener can’t cover up the fact that the clothes aren’t getting clean. Pre-washing and double washing didn’t help either. I couldn’t stand the stinky clothes any more and went back to mainstream, evil, bad for the environment laundry detergent that actually gets my clothes clean in one washing before I finished the bottle of lavendar ECOS I bought. What makes it especially bad is that I’m generally less sensitive about smells than most folks.

I have been using 7th Generation laundry detergent for years and really like their latest HE version as it cleans well on soiled clothes whereas I only used their old formula on non-soiled “dirty” items like towels and linens. Sam’s currently has this 210 ounce bottle for under 13, so I decided to try it. I’m used to using a full 7th’s gen. top as my measuring cup, so without reading the bottle label I did the same for Ecos which is about 5-6 times what was required to use for my LG front load washer. My clothes came out clean, but in my efforts to be green I did poorly since I didn’t read the directions until I came upon this web page. I also added 7th Gen.’s fabric softener which wasn’t necessary either. So read the directions, don’t add a fabric softener and be greener than I.

I’ve been using ECOS lavender laundry detergent for several months and my clothes do not smell clean. They actually have a strange smell like they weren’t even washed. I have to use a whole cap full instead of the recommended half in order to get my clothes smelling neutral. I have a great HE washer and shouldn’t have to use so much detergent per load. I’m going to try Meyer’s and see how that works.

This product cleans nicely without a strong scent. It is priced reasonably for a specialty product.
