category: Fuel Economy

At a time when gas prices continue to head skyward and everyone wants to get the best mileage possible, a federal mandate that’s been around for several years may actually be costing people on their gas mileage.

I’d hesitate before calling the advocates of “green” fuels liberals. Their argument is in favor of restrictive governmental measures. Liberal is he who stands for free economy. Sadly, the word liberal is much abused nowadays: it is used in (at least) two directly opposite meanings.

not sure this argument holds up in brasil. gasoline usually runs double the cost of ethanol. It is more cost efective there. why is this? the petroleum lobby

Another tree hugger idea gone wrong. Ethanol actually leads to more pollution, wastes water and is extremely expensive to produce. Stupid liberals!!

Not in any of our cars-95 saturn sl2, 93 honda civic, 89 camaro, 98 audi a4; with e85 in saturn and audi, they get around 10% less than pure gas, e10 has no noticable difference, and the approx 60% e85/e10 mix in the honda (close to equal milage on highway) and camaro (5% to 15% worse depending on highway or town and if it’s in the winter (in minnesota)
I wonder what’s wrong with this guy’s car-no one else that’s I’ve seen gets anywhere near that bad e85 milage.
