@caradetaco67 you sound so stupid by even making that comment for in several areas it did get up to $5 per gal. In New Hampshire we got up to 5.27
You sound so stupid talking about how prices were going to reach 5 $ in 2008
“We need affordable gas because some places are located hundreds of miles from any major city. ” How about affordable gas + high MPG cars… ?
Because they have higher standards.
@SaNePisamPeTigani
You don’t seem to realize to things:
First of all, the high gas prices in Europe are due to high taxes, not due to the oil price. We need affordable gas because some places are located hundreds of miles from any major city. Secondly, you clearly have no idea how much energy producing a new car costs. My “inefficient” American cars last over 20 years and counting, with only minor repairs. We’ll see where your Hyundai is in 2027. Probably on the scrapyard.
simple way. USA has oil => you can afford not to think about gas mileage when buying a car => car producers don’t care about gas mileage => they build inefficient engines. I own a 2007 Hyundai Accent 1498 cc diesel manual (yes, i like real driving) 110 hp with 60 MPG on an open road. High rpm ? I shift gears at 2500 max. Bought it in 2007, got ~45000 km and the only maintenance it requires is oil change ( i use synthetic high-quality) and the water for the windshield. Beat that.
I don’t bomb any country either. I’m against any war, but I don’t see how that relates to car mileage.
The huge engines you are talking about, are more reliable than the small, high rpm turbocharges engines that are being manufactured in Europe these days. Me, as a “normal thinking” person, chooses durability over short-life products. The 4.6L V8 of my Grand Marquis can get to 500.000 miles without major problems, because it’s been built like a tank engine. That’s worth the extra gas.
Well please excuse us because we don’t bomb the fuck out of other countries rich in oil to get it from them. 4$ / gallon is expensive ? well we pay 1.2$ / liter.. that is 4.44 $ / gallon. You can get your big bad huge engines and stick it up your ass. Any normal thinking person would chose a smart engine over “american engine”. For so many reasons, you like American engine because it sounds good. You people should really rethink your priorities in life. You ignorant light-thinking people.
I am happy that you dont have any problems with your cars,but if the american cars were always as good as you experienced,if it was like that why American people started to buy Japanese and European cars in last 35 years more and more.I am not comparing VW Golf with Dodge Ram,I am comparing it with Toyota Tundra or Honda Ridgeline,Nissan Titan.I compare it with Dodge Avenger,and Chevy Cobalt.GTS cannot be compared with 5 series,it is more equal to 3 series or mercedes 190.
@turkogluturk2
I drive a 21 years old Chrysler GTS which still runs great after ~150000 miles, a 19 year old LeBaron which also went well before it got hit by a truck and a brand new Dodge Avenger.
American cars are not all that inefficient. My GTS gets 25mpg combined, and it’s a mid size car from 1988. A BMW 5 series from that time is less efficient.
The average US car weighs three times as much as the average Euro car, that makes the difference. You can’t compare a Dodge Ram with a VW Golf.
After 20 years,American cars will be just remembered with old goodies.Because they started to be out of date,with their technologies,less reliability,less fuel efficiency.Even if you Americans are mostly driving Japanese cars because you found out the truth too.They are totally worth for your money,can make 300k Miles if you take care of it.Not guzzling the fuel as americans,relatively cheaper to drive and keep.
I had been in that Dodge Ram 1500 5.7 HEMI V8 2008.Piece of shit in interior compared to Japanese trucks.All in all awesome sound and torque,towing ability is great but not better than a Toyota Truck.Interior totally sucks,all plastic,still manual air conditioning- is this the feeling of luxury that you are proud of.And best part,10 MPG =) No space enough for me in the back seats,even if drivers seat is in extremely front.This is luxury=)
If you wanna see a plastic interior,go to the nearest chevy or dodge dealer,sit in a cobalt or avenger,see the American quality that you are proud of.Then next go an sit in a VW Golf or a Honda Civic.You gonna feel the difference of quality.More luxury feeling,be honest.Why dont you compare the Lincolns with Mercedes Benz,BMW,Audi,Lexus,Infiniti,Acura.Accept it,Germans and Japaneses make the best luxurious premium class cars.
I just say that you american car producers should improve their technology.For example I respect the new ecoboost system of Ford 3.5 365 hp.But it is so particular,these V8 s are so inefficient.You should accept it.American car producers give more importance to visuality than technology and reliability.They put wood trim,leather seats,dvd players but thansmission fails after 100 k miles,not gives enough protection in accidents
@turkogluturk2
You can’t be serious! American V8′s have no torque? Come on! Do your homework boy. And there’s much more luxury feeling in American cars than most European, and about all Japanese cars. If you want to have a black/grey plastic interior, go to the Toyota dealer. And about fuel efficiency: Ford makes hybrid SUV’s instead of gay Priuses. That’s fuel efficiency in a car that I actually WANT to drive.
You should once in your life see, for example, a Lincoln or new Dodge Ram 1500.
And a 3.0 diesel european engine can do the same job of your perfect sounding V8,consume less than half of the fuel than V8 guzzles with a 6 speed manual transmissions.And even if you americans started to buy more Japanese and European cars,because you noticed the reality that American cars are way less reliable.European and Japanese manifacturers make a lot of impressive designs.I wondered what kind of car you are driving?
Japanese and European cars are best in industry.American cars just waste the fuel,and they have major plastic usage in main consoles and no luxury feeling,huge engines but not efficient torque and horse power.Fuel and power wasting,distracting automatic transmissions in all cars,At least %10 waste of fuel and performance.American V8 s sounds awesome but European and Japanese V8 s beat the shit of your fuel drinking V8
Because larger cars have more space and legroom. And because American cars have more comfort and luxury in general than the cheap plastic import from Asia and Europe. And because a V8 sounds awesome and has a lot of power. I’m not going to tow a heavily loaded trailer with a 1.4 VW engine. And because you are the one wining. I don’t care about gas mileage, I care more about how impressive my car looks.
lol its not 5 dollars its 3 now lol less than it was then
And since the impala has an automatic gearbox (which also wastes fuel)you can probably tow a heavier trailer with the rekord!And if its a rekord diesel it will probably get 3 to 4 times better mileage for the same job done!So I just wonder WHY??Cant really imagine why americans should have different needs regarding automobiles than europeans?
What are YOU whining about?Gas prices are at least double here!You whine,but your cars are still gas guzzlers.Even cars available in europe have bigger engines in the us,and no diesels available!The ONLY way to keep fuel costs down is to drive a normal-size(in us compact size)car with a diesel engine in it.And why are the cars bigger,with v8-engines?Compare a chevy impala to an opel rekord:You can seat one more who doesnt sit comfortably anyway,maybe you can bring slightly more luggage.
IT cost $60 a month! SO IF I PAY $60 A MONTH ON THIS THEN I CAN SAVE MONEY YOUR RETARDED
THATS BULLSHIT!!
